Sorry i dont have pics of the headstamp to begin with. My digital camera needs to be upgraded but I prefer guns and ammo over cameras. But I am trying to identify the 30.06 springfield ammo by its headstamp.

The first head stamp says "30.06A 58". Very well could be "60a, 30, 58" like fatelk said.

I was told it was possibly taiwanese ammo and im betting its corrosive if it was made in 1958.

Any info on the ammo would be appreciated. And is it safe to shoot out of my garand. Springer 5 million serial number.

The second headstam says "KA 73"

I was told this is greek non corrosive. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for all of the information.

Check my signature for the best place to ask about headstamps. You can also try the headstamp gallery in the public area of the AFTE forum.

A second piece of advice is, you don't need a camera to take pictures of the headstamp. You can use a flatbed scanner also. Just make sure you have the dpi at 300 or higher and crop it to the head afterwards.

The KA is corrosive.

However, don't let that discourage you from using it. I have KA and it is fine ammo....especially the brass. If you reload, you'll like it. Now as far as shooting the stuff, just kae a botle of windex w/ammonia with you to the range. Shoot your rounds and then liberally hose down the bore and action with the windex.

This will negate the corrosive primer residue...then just clean normally.

The first head stamp says "30.06A 58".

Is it perhaps "60A 30 58" instead?

If so, it's Tiawanese and corrosive, like you suspected. Otherwise good ammo like the Korean stuff.
It is boxer primed, but they used an oddball oversize primer so if you try to reload them the new primer just falls out. I figured out a way to fix that but most people just scrap them.
