Advertise guns online like Craigslist

Hi,

I am frustrated because there are no sites that will allow me to freely advertise my guns online. Craigslist forbids it. Ebay forbids it. Gunbroker, Gunsamerica and other large sites make me pay to post and force me to involve an FFL. :banghead:

I live in South Carolina where a person to person sale of a gun is perfectly legal. There is a paper here called the "iwanna" which advertises guns and bows but even they have restrictions on "assault" type weapons such as an Ak47. I believe they deleted my advertisements when I tried to list a 75 round drum magazine for one. I think it's stupid! If it's legal I want to buy it and sell it from my personal collection.

I am seriously considering (very seriously considering)... (like within a day or two) building a site for South Carolina residents to advertise their guns on for free. This would facilitate a healthy commerce of buying an selling for gun enthusiast and cut down on prices due to advertising and middleman cost.

Before I do so I am checking to make sure that this would in fact be legal. I understand there are laws restricting the sale to known felons and other people who do not qualify to buy firearms. But... to my knowledge... there is no law forbidding the ADVERTISEMENT of guns to the good people who are qualified to buy such firearms.
 
I can't give you any legal advice, especially for South Carolina. However, I will just note there is a classified section in this forum as well as other forums.
 
I've noticed that Craig's list, while forbidding listing guns, doesn't seem to edit some of their subheadings (and bows and crossbows are listed a bunch!). I work under the "barter" listing or "wanted" listing.

Here in Kansas we have KCguntrader.com. You might take a look at it to see how it works.
 
I didn't see anyone mention Armslist.com. It's like craigslist but for guns. Some states have a lot of activity. KS is one. OK, AR...there are some with no activity though. I've picke up a couple items locally and so far it has worked out fairly well.

Gunbroker doesn't charge to list a firearm, only charge a very small percentage when it sells. They don't require the FFL, it's required for receiving not for shipping (although some dealers do require shipping from FFL for them to accept). If somebody lives near you locally and it's legal to do a face to face transaction, do it. :neener:
 
I was just on Craigslist for the Atlanta area. I clicked on the "sports equipment" section and the second posted item was a Springfield SOCOM 16.......I've located several firearms on Craigslist.....
 
Check out TexasGunTrader.com. It won't help you, specifically, but it - like some of these other suggestions - might give you some ideas.

TGT is a free service that sells business ads, "premium" sale ads ($3-$5, I believe), and strongly implies after the sale that since the ad was run for free and you just made some dinero, you could send a little of that to the TGT folks.

I had a Smith M&P listed here for almost 2 weeks - no dice. Only one offer. Put on TGT and within 4 days it was sold.

Bet they won't be there long...some do-gooder always reports them and CL yanks them. I have seem some cleverly worded ones though that last awhile before someone figured out what they were really selling...and no they weren't in the personals section although similar clever wording there gets the item for sale communicated ;)
 
Then start your own. Gunbroker and Gunsamerica are businesses. Craigs list is also a private organization that makes their own rules. If you dislike the rules then you are free to go somewhere else.

Many forums have a classified section with a great deal of potential buyers. You will also have the comfort of knowing that the people who buy are also enthusiasts. Not to mention there is a feedback option and you can run searches under their usernames to weed out potential bad buyers and bad sellers.
