am I missing something? these things where 550-670's around March-May....

1 question on ak47's by Century arms. I have heard a few problems with them lilke it blew up in one persons face,(something due to the fact shell failed to eject and jammed/misfired) I have heard about 4 to 6 bad things happen to people using a CENTURY ak47. Anyone have problems with theirs?

The drop in price is due to the fact that alot of the panic buying has wore off and now there isnt enough demand to justify the high prices that were being charged. It is happening to AR15's too. Rifles that were selling for $1200-$1300 in post election prices ar enow going for $850. As for the issues of exploding rifles I havent heard anything about that but usually Wasr-10's are generally pretty reliable, they may not be the prettiest or best built rifles but they usually go bang everytime the trigger is pulled.

seems like the madness is starting to ebb. About time too.

If I'm not mistaken Century imports the Romanian wasr-10. These rifles are a good value if your not overly concerned with the aesthetics. I have one in the safe behind me and it has always performed as it should. There have been problems with canted sights and gas blocks but nothing inherently dangerous to the best of my knowledge. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I only had the cash.

whats the problem with the gas blocks????? if these go below 350 ill jump on it. that was 2-4 years ago prices :)

Roughly half the gas blocks were fitted by Helen Keller gunsmithing.

When these drop to $250 each I still won't buy one.

Arsenal SA M-7 or nothing.

Hm, I can't find anything on this "Helen Keller gunsmithing" company. Well, there was this one page...but it was in braille. Google didn't know how to translate that.

Nope, not missing anything. Thats kind of the going price that I see online for Ak47s. I just bought my new Romanian Wasr10 today online for $420 brand new. These are the new improved Wasr's, no more mag wobble and they have brushed stainless pistons now, or so Im told. This guy did a really good review on it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6Nh-DkBkfs

Hey, cool. Glad to hear they're going down, finally. I'd really have loved to get a Yugoslavian about two years ago for $500 when they were available (buddy of mine did, great looking rifle for an AK). When they drop to $350 I'll think about one or two.

I can't see the left side markings, but it looks like a 10/63 (slant brake not seen on plain-jane WASRs that I've held) which is a very good AK. I have one 10/63 and it is tight and will shoot 3 MOA with a scope. My plain WASR 10 is just a fun bullet hose. That price is pretty decent for a plain WASR, and very good for a 10/63. CAI is doing a little better than they used to, from what I've seen. See if you can find out the model number.

can you give me some tips on which AK type to buy? I know WASR's but never heard about a 10/63??

As near as I can tell recently CAI has roughly 3 levels of quality available in an AK.The basic wood stocked "WASR" which I've seen stamped only with "CAI" once again running $400 - $500 seems to be better quality than they were two or three years ago but they're still a bit 'rattley' and with relatively ill fitting parts and no muzzle brake nor threads for one. I have one that will hold five to six inch groups at 100 yards scoped. Typical AK accuracy. There seems to be a mid level wood or plastic stock version stamped "WASR 10" with better fitting parts, fewer canted sights, slant brake, etc. for around $550 - $600. Seems noticeably tighter. And then there is the WASR 10/63 that appears to be CAI's high end Romanian. Mine will actually shoot three inch groups with some ammo till it gets hot. These have threaded and non tack welded muzzles with the slant brake - and can be replaced - and usually come with plastic furniture and either side folding Tapco or nicer wooden stocks and Tapco G2 trigger group - decent two stage trigger. At least this is what I've seen locally. Your mileage may vary.

InterOrdinance Arms in Monroe, NC now makes decent stuff from Romanian parts but they are a little pricey right now with CAI quality getting better. IOs run around $650 - $800 in my area. They are generally a bit better quality than CAI's WASRs and WASR 10s - also made from Romanian kits. Better mag well cuts, tighter fitting parts, etc.

Then there is Arsenal and a couple other companies - such as Krebs - importing Russian Saigas and refitting them with various components. These are a little better quality imho (imho only) than CAI or IO, but at around $1000 a pop to start I'm not sure it's that much better - more accurate, more rleiable, etc. - than a WASR 10/63. I have seen Arsenal STG2000s that appeared to be very, very good weapons and shot close to MOA from a bench. Like everyone e4lse, their quality varies from year to year as near as I can tell. Some say that they've seen STGs that were crap. I don't know. I liked them. But I couldn't justify spending $1000 plus for something that will never be as accurate as a less expensive DPMS M4.

Speaking of Krebs, he makes excellent weapons but I can't see me paying those prices. At $1200 to start, going to over $2000 I can't see it. But that's just me. I guess if you wanted to most accurate, reliable, and doo-dad loaded AK available he would be the guy to see. I have personally seen a Saiga 7.62x39 shoot MOA so Krebs is using the right platform to start with.

Also check out Lancaster AKs. They seemed to be decent pieces too at around $700 - $800. They will be coming down like everyone else and may be a good buy soon. Anyone know what parts kits they use? Bulgarian? Hungarian? I think they stamp their own receivers and maybe make their own barrels.

The last AK I am familiar with personally is the Chinese Norinco. I had a MAK 90 back in the day that was decent and would hold 3 to 4 inch groups till hot. Lately the Norinco MAK 91s I see still seem to be pretty good weapons in the $500 to $600 range. If you run across a milled receivered, bull barreled "Match Grade" MAK 90 with the 20 inch heavy barrel jump on it. They are excellent guns for hunting or sniping at the range. I heard MAK 91s would no longer be imported but my local smithy gets them all the time.

Run a search here and I'll bet there is a wealth of info from guys far more knowledgable than me. Over the next year as AKs and ARs return to sane pricing there will be a lot more high quality AKs available than in the old days and at reasonable prices.

An AK and 1000 rounds of Wolf FMJ is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. :D And a low capacity mag full of pointed soft point ammo is a perfect brush gun for smallish eastern white tails. Ballistics similar to the venerable 30-30. I'm having a hard time justifying a new AR weapon in 5.56 when my better AK (the 10/63) does everything I need from a rifle: home defense, loads of fun, and deer hunting in the Fall.

one last question, I notice on gunbroker alot of ak47 wasr,wasr10's are coming with TAPCO mags, could you put the Original European 30 round's in it (metal mags not the ugly plastic mags) I didnt know if it went against the compliant law???

My wasr $420 is a 10/63 or whatever. It comes with all wood furniture, as far as I can tell it's better to buy them this way and put your own stuff on later. Oh and I'm sure you can put whatever mag on it you want, I'm buying a 75rd drum for mine. The tapco polymer mags are supposed to be really good though, no mag wobble

What is with the little red cap (looks like one of the little wire caps that the power co. uses to prevent corrosion) on the charging handle? :)

I think it's on there to make the gun look "new"

Wouldn't a WASR techically be a surplus gun ?

Dealers can still order Tapco, etc new mags. Wholesellers are cleaned out of surplus. Easier for them then trying to find surplus to save a couple dollars.

I've never had a problem with a Century build aside from front sight bases. My last 3 Century AKs have had canted front sights, in each case canted toward the left, ironically almost all about the same distance to the left. The sight is just more in the circle to the right now, I have have just zeroed it as is on each and not moved the base.

externally, no. They are made on US receivers and barrels, if I recall correctly.

But just about everything else of a WASR within legal bounds is from the old ComBloc

Im pretty sure the new batch of WASR10's are totally new. Not sure if the receivers are actually american made either, I think they are from Romania - I know their coming with the eastern euro scope mounts on them.
