I just started shooting trap a few months ago here in Washington. I've been using yellow tinted glasses when I shoot. I've also noticed the orange tinted glasses in the stores.

Is yellow or orange tinted preferred for trap? What do most shooters use?

Just plain yellow.

I used those at night while driving, it stops some of the cars and thier excessive blue headlights. And tend to let others know that there is a possible gun in the vehicle. People tend to stay 20 feet away when Im out at night with them on.

Plain yellow does it well.

Now once upon a time I had orange, Blue, Pink (Yeech...) red....

Always back to yellow.

Not so much to SEE what you are shooting, it also helps to keep the blast out of your eyes with that grit and such flying .

There are all sorts of designer tints meant to improve the contrast of an orange target against different backgrounds. I have some Decots with a purplish tint that do ok but I cannot tell they are any better than my old yellow Ray-Bans. A lot of the top shooters will have a selection of interchangeable lenses to suit the background and lighting.

I don't shoot trap, but highpower. I use yellow on overcast days and a rose color when the sun is beating down.

I get the shoot glasses that goes over my glasses at Gander. It's less than 10 bux and get one for the wife as well. We go through a number after a while.

Once I resolve the left lens prescription on the next visit I will have sufficient numbers to order a set of shoot RX glasses that seals everything around the eyeball.

I thought about starting a thread and stumbled across this, so I'll ask here. Has anyone experimented while shooting with different kinds of glasses, or just different color tints, and come to any conclusive results about one being better than the other? For example, are you consistently more accurate with amber glasses on than clear glasses? What is everyone's favorite color, and does it relate to conditions you shoot in? I'm thinking more about target shooting than clays, which I imagine would make a difference as well.

The most recent issue of Shooting Sports USA had an article on the application of various colors for shooting lenses. It was primarily oriented towards clay target sports, but made mention of others. SSUSA is published or available in a e-version from NRA.

Personally, for me when shooting hi-power, I used a light rose/vermillion lens, for action pistol a very light shade of grey or clear depending on light.

THIS COMPANY IS RUN BY A MAN NAMED CLARENCE. HE IS AT CAMP PERRY FOR BOTH THE PISTOL AND RIFLE PHASE. HE CUSTOM TINTS THE COLORS WHILE YOU WAIT. DARKER OR LIGHTER. ALSO THE LENS MATERIAL HE USES IS NOT THE STANDARD BUT MUCH HIGH QUALITY. ON HIS WEB PAGE IS A TUTORIAL ABOUT THE COLORS AND WHAT THEY DO. READ UP AND LEARN . JIM P

And tend to let others know that there is a possible gun in the vehicle.
 ***?

I use the rose color when shooting USPSA, or any of the gun games, for that matter. I save the yellow for those times when I need to say, "I have a gun", without speaking.

so the rose color makes the targets at those particular events stand out better than yellow or grey tint?
