Hi guys,

I'm familiar with O/U's for my bird hunting but I have been really seeing the merits of a good auto for ducks. I keep hearing to avoid gas models as the rings will fail, the complicated actions will get crudded up with seawater and be hard to clean, in fewer words the inertia model Benellis are THE way to go. But the write-ups on the Maxus have been great and it is cheaper. Can any of you veteran waterfowlers advise?

Thanks!

Steve

I've owned a sbe1 and I completely disagree. I prefer a gas operated gun. I sold a Remington 1100 to get the benelli sbe1. I feel it was a huge mistake, which I have since corrected. But to each his own.

I own a Maxus currently, and I have owned several Benelli's, M2 and SBE II mainly. I sold all the Benelli's but the one my wife bought me and bought A5's.

They are both good guns and each has its own merits, not enough to argue about. The Maxus I just bought was less than $1150 out the door, try finding a new Benelli for that.

The Maxus is a softer shooter than the SBE II, but for waterfowling, you will never be able to tell when the birds are in your face.

I would suggest you buy which ever fits you better.

Feel them both and don't forget the Vinci which I think is a more direct comparison of weight to the Maxus. The Maxus has a very different feel from a Benelli. I suggest basing most of your decision on weight. I like the rubber grippy stock of the Maxus but the forend is not as slender or comfortable as the Benelli IMO. I believe the Maxus will be every bit as reliable as a Benelli recoil gun.

Lord, they got another one. Keep in mind that a lot of that "oh so wonderful Benelli" talk is advertising. I've been shooting gas autos for 46 years without any failing rings or crudded up actions or any of that baloney. Yes I do clean my gun after every outing; usually just a spray and wipe of the gas system and the outside, 5 minutes at the outside. I do it with my pumps, too, and my pumps may take 2 minutes less when I take one of those.
Another by word of the inertia fraternity is that perceived recoil is way less if the gun fits. Well, the SBE I shot must have been the worst fit of any gun I ever shot, because it crushed me. I had a 10 gauge BPS specailly lightened and it kicked less, and I think gas autos do more to attenuate recoil that anything else.
I am not saying Benellis don't work.

More than your pump guns? Or are those 20ga or smaller?

Orphaned Cowboy,
Thanks. Do you like the SBEII better or the Maxus? I'd have to get them side by side and I will when the Maxus comes in but they both seemed to fit pretty well. Just curious: "If I could only pick one..." Thanks everybody!

Steve

If I could only pick one?

I'd get the Extrema 2. Fits me really, really well.

That's how I would choose.:)

I will not pay their prices. My maximum is $500 and there are plenty of used and some new guns that can be had in that price range. A 95% Remington 11-87, Franchi 48, and many other proven guns can be bought for less.

No doubt that Benelli is a good gun but it is way ridiculously overpriced.

Hi Guys,

I bought the Maxus and absolutely love it! I only was able to shoot a couple of boxes out of it before dark and a few 3.5's for "fun" but it seemed to find the clays "like a magnet" (as my friend put it) and it is just so lightweight, pointable and user friendly that...well, it's daylight again and I have to go shoot some skeet with it now!

Thanks again!

Steve

I have Both the SuperNova and SBE II now 3.5 in the SuperNova is a bit harse. I thought maybe a better recoil pad on it. Now the SBE II not to too bad but some felt recoil with a 3.5. I take it as a part low weight. Well this now comes to these QUESTIONS.

I have the following Chokes:

Super Nova
*************

IC - .715

IM - .700
F - .695
EF - .685

TKY - .640

SBE II
*********

C - .725
SK - .720
IC - .715
LM - .710
M - .705

F - .695

TKY - .665

The Above are Carlsons and most are ported chokes I have

Now what other chokes would I need for the Following and to use with 4 thru 9 BB BBB T F and 0 00 000 ect...

Any suggestions I and parcial to ported but if one is good fine. I want something for all around ccan be used with Steel lead hevi ect...

Any suggestions.

then anyone have suggestions on better recoil pads and what about revamping them with Remington Supercells and adding 1/4 por 1/2 inch increments to cushion the more heavier 3.5 down to 2 3/4 feel or less.

Thanks
