Folks, I'm now convinced!

My expirence with many of the "crap" gun makers is pretty good. Hi points, Lorcins, Jennings, Ravens, Jimenez...

I have shot them all and owned most of them and after the initial break in period firing the correct ammo, none of them have troubled me. My advice, buy new or very good condition used. A lot of people have gotten these 2nd or 3rd or even 4th hand and the things are worn out and lousy.

Just to remind folks, when Glocks and CZ's first became widespread everyone said they were junk. I can't tell you how many gun counter / msg board folks assured me that they were the worst guns in the world, hi priced paper weights... lol...

When quoting law please give the language of the law and not some numbers, those laws could just apply to USPS and not common carrier, or you could be right.... As far as I know how you ship with common carrier is not under any law but rather company policy.

I bought one of the 45 models a couple of years back. After a mag or 2 it has been very reliable. I have a 1911 which I have had to put a fair amount of work into and it's still not as reliable as the hi-point. I've found nothing to complain about it.

"In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm. [18 U. S. C. 922(a)( 2)( A) and 922( e), 27 CFR 178.31]"

Nice customer service.
But admitting to a federal crime on the 'net?
:what:

I shipped a 995 back to them a while back. Hi Point told me to write "Machined Parts" on the box.

Not sure how I would handle it now after reading this thread.

The statement quoted is in BATFE publications, but actually is not quite what the law says. The law says that IF a firearm (not just a handgun) is being shipped to OTHER than a FFL licensee, the carrier must be notified. If the shipment is to a licensee, notification is not required under federal law, but most carriers do require it. It is not clear what they can do to violators except return the shipment and/or refuse other shipments from that person.

Here is the full text of the applicable portion of the law:

"It shall be unlawful for any person knowingly to deliver or cause to be delivered to any common or contract carrier for transportation or shipment in interstate or foreign commerce, to persons other than licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, or licensed collectors, any package or other container in which there is any firearm or ammunition without written notice to the carrier that such firearm or ammunition is being transported or shipped; except that any passenger who owns or legally possesses a firearm or ammunition being transported aboard any common or contract carrier for movement with the passenger in interstate or foreign commerce may deliver said firearm or ammunition into the custody of the pilot, captain, conductor or operator of such common or contract carrier for the duration of the trip without violating any of the provisions of this chapter. No common or contract carrier shall require or cause any label, tag, or other written notice to be placed on the outside of any package, luggage, or other container that such package, luggage, or other container contains a firearm."

The reasoning behind that paragraph is that while a shipment to a licensee is (normally) legal, a shipment to a non-licensee may be illegal and the carrier needs to be aware of that possibility.

i happen to like my taurus guns for all the haters here... they are well capable of outshooting anything you put up against them in the hands of a good shooter and doing so dependably... oh and guess what.... I have no issue with their customer service.

Full text of law.

Good to know and I was wrong on this regarding a manufacturer. I've run into this "no tell" more with people here in TX wanting me to ship direct within TX. Looks like that is still a no go.
But with "no tell" you'd still have the issue with the carrier that you are left hanging if lost regardless of insurance you paid because you didn't follow their "rules"..

Assuming the manufacturer has a federal license, you could ship USPS. Priority mail is not that much.

Tom

Okay. We've covered the shipping. Let's get back to hearing about Hi Point quality.

I have owned three High Points and they all were better than you could ever expect in relation to the price I paid. Their 45 model really impressed me.

They have THE best warranty in the gun business..........period.

That being said........I've sold every one of them.
