My Parkerized 870P has proven very robust and never gives me a moment's worry. Don't believe I'd want to exchange it for blued given the opportunity.

Polished Blue - Just picked up a polished blue 870P Model # 24899.

Nothing better than a worn polished blue finish firearm!

Whats up John, thanks to you im getting one too!! :D Im excited, I think the polished blue looks so much better then the park. I also bought a Vang Comp steel follower, Scattergun tech. jumbo safety and a Supercell recoil pad. This shotgun will have walnut police furniture :D I sold my parkerized 870p to get this setup and I cant wait to get it!!

By the way, Ron is a super nice guy!

Blued, looks better and parkerizing isn't really any tougher nor is it all that much more corrosion resistant unless you keep it soaked in oil, plus you can't touch up scratches nearly as easily as with blueing.

I'd prefer a factory Melonite/Tennifer or DLC type finish for a hard use gun if it were available.

Parked. Good, tough matte finish that doesn't reflect light is what I like on guns meant for fighting.

I prefer parkerized for an 870P. My 870P is parkerized, which makes it plain and simple looking. The metal and wood are flat. When I pick up my 870P, I want a look and feel of a plain old gun that's ready for rugged use.

My 870 Wingmaster is the prettier shotgun. The metal and wood are shiny. When I pick up my Wingmaster, it feels like I'm holding something special, like I have to care for it more. I know the Wingmaster is just as rugged, but it's just a feeling. I like having the difference between the guns.

I feel the complete opposite. I feel like the parkerized finish gets scratched way to easy compared to the polished 870p thus having the feeling of "special care". I feel like the polished blue is way more simple then the parkerized finish, maybe that's why its cheaper?

I know the parkerized 870P gets scratched easier. After awhile, there are so many scratches, that I don't even care anymore. It looks used and ready to be used. That's what I want from my 870P! That's my point. In contrast, I would like to keep my Wingmaster nice, regardless if it's harder to scratch up.

I'm not sure how your guns feel to operate. My Wingmaster's action is smooth like butter, while my 870P's action is grittier. The Wingmaster definitely feels special, like putting on my favorite suit. In contrast, I feel like I'm supposed to ride my 870P harder without a care. Again, I know it's just a feeling.

By the way, it looks like you haven't even been shooting your guns. Let's talk after you get some mileage in both guns and after the newness has worn off. ;)

Parkerizing gets a lot more scratch resistant if its allowed to absorb a lot of oil, but IMO it serves a lot better as a cost cutting expedient than as a rugged finish. Park does look all business though and it stands up to contact corrosives {fingerprints etc} a lot better than blue.

Oh don't be mad because mine look better then yours do. :neener:

Call me a Ninja, but I'm in love with parkerized finishes. The parked 870 you have up there is a beaut, the wood looks great too.

To look at? Blue and walnut, no doubt.

To use? Parkerized. No question about it. With good synthetic furniture, too- I prefer a Speedfeed II stock, cut down to 12.5" with a good pad installed, and a Remington LE forearm, the ones that look like they were molded from the walnut ones. Throw on sling swivel studs and a good basic sling, a 6-round Sidesaddle, a Streamlight 69906 ring-mount rail for a weaponlight, and a good detachable LED weapon light like a TLR-1 or TLR-3, and I'll be a happy man. Rifle sights, bead or ghost ring, makes no real difference, though I do like sights of some kind for an 'outside' gun.
