My manual on my Browning Maxus states explicitly to: "never allow the action to slam closed by pressing the bolt release button without the barrel installed. If the bolt is released forward with the barrel removed, the operating handle will strike the receiver and cause damage." well, when cleaning, I had my hand on it but it went forward though maybe not with quite full speed. I'm an O/U guy with his first auto. It still seems to cycle just fine though I haven't shot it. How would I know if I damaged the receiver? Anything I should look for or should I assume I got lucky as it is still functioning normally. Thanks guys! Never again! :-(

Any receiver damage would be apparent where the bolt handle made contact with the front of the ejection port.

Do you see any damage?
Did the bolt handle break off?

Well, O.K. then!

"well, when cleaning"

See, cleaning is not good like everybody says. ;) You had a perfectly fine gun, but no, you wanted to take it apart. :)

I escaped with just the tiniest of dings (little camo came off)! Whew!

Read the manual first. Sick about it. Just didn't have the proper purchase on it. Slowed it down though so just a little ding you wouldn't notice. Whew! I learned my lesson.

Look at the bright side.

You would have been even sicker if you had a cleaning patch on your finger in there cleaning the bolt face!
