CCW and Public Restrooms

I use a paddle holster and simply remove the holster before dropping trou.

First off you should consider places your normally go. Long before I got a permit I "mentally noted" nice places to "do a sit down" Mainly places with a lock on door for "single person" bathroom. Then you put gun in your pants leg. (no chance to forget it on toilet seat) Yes there have been a few folks honest enough to post they FORGOT it..... (That has to be just below my fear that I will ever have to use my gun) as worst things.

Remove the firearm before dropping your pants, and keep the firearm on your lap or in your hands, I would think.

I was traveling last weekend (long car trip).

The pistol goes in the pocket (it doesn't have to be a good fit, just secure enough not to go clattering onto the floor) and the pants are carefully lowered.

Unfasten, lower to knee level or so, and refasten, then fold the boxers over the pistol.

Practice at home.

dont really care if someone sees it. what are they gonna do? report you to the police? well officer i was looking under toilet stall walls and-----

if your worried just start talking to yourself or grunting loudly and no one will come near your stall.

This happens several times a week at work. I use a belt holster, not a paddle. When I drop trou, just put the pistol in the crotch of your pants. It will settle nicely below the waistband and nobody is any the wiser.

Choose your stall wisely. I pick the one where my strong side is against the wall, thus shielding it from view.

Weapon on weak hand.

Shoulder Holster...it's never an issue...


Pocket-Carry...never an issue...


'Mexican-Carry'...issue...(if easily solved, as various above Posts relay for IWB...)

Do NOT hang it on the coat hook by the trigger guard!

Yeah, I've done it... I wear in an IWB holster. What I did was basically fold the gun inwards so that it gets covered by the rest of the pants. But pulling them back up when you're done is hard - the damn thing keeps trying to come out, you basically have to grab it by the handle and use it to pull your pants up

I stick the pistol under my arm, as if I had a shoulder holster on, and assuming I don't forget and move my arm it stays right there. I guess I would put it under the arm I don't wipe with though....

Perhaps my bias has something to do with the full nature of any public toilet stall I'm occupying - if you remember what it is like to use a bus/airline crapper, that's what it is like for me in any non-handicapped stall.
If the pistol was going to move from the normal location on the belt, it is moving with the holster ... I'm not about to try to catch my pistol and end up claiming "it went off when it hit the floor", like most of these morons who have a ND in the can end up claiming, even though the shot was obviously downwards, not up from the floor.

Here is definitely an advantage to a shoulder holster. But I don't wear them, so I loosen but don't completely unbuckle my belt, slide my pants down over my hips with the gun and holster still attached, and spread my knees apart to maintain pressure on the gun/holster and keep them upright. This also showcases the value of a holster with some retention to it. I've also removed the gun and set it on a paper dispenser if the top surface is flat enough, but this introduces an additional danger of forgetting it.

I take the gun out of it's holster and put in my pocket. We're not exactly talking about particle physics.

If I have to, the gun goes into a pocket.

If there's a place to, I take the holster off (hooked spring-clip IWB) and set it on the back of the toilet, the paper dispenser, etc. I'm good about not forgetting about it.

When you go up #2 creek, always use a paddle.

My IWB unclips from the belt, and goes into the crotch of the pants / shorts still in Holster. Trigger protected, safety still on, it's good to go. When I stand up it goes back on the belt.

I really hate to have to do that in a public restroom.
But I digress.

Some years back a policeman in my town went to the bathroom in a fast food place and actually left his pistol on the back of the toilet.
An employee happened to find it and smuggled it out back and hid it behind the dumpster presumably to retrieve later. The cop realized his mistake while ordering and rushed into the bathroom only to find his pistol gone. Someone evidently saw the employee run out and come right back and reported him. He confessed after being questioned and the revolver was returned later that evening. They put the employee in jail but I am not sure what happened to the cop as his identity was never released.

Um, let's see.......how about they STEAL IT ! They reach under the adjacent stall, snag your gun and run out the door. Now, what are YOU going to do? Chase after them with your pants around your ankles ?

I remove the pistol and set it on the paper holder. Most of them either have a good flat side, or the roll itself will hold the pistol nicely. I do this extremely rarely, like less than once a year. I try to keep #2 restricted to home, and I can't carry at work.

As well as being an incredibly unlikely scenario, the chances of being able to successfuly accomplish such an endeavor are pretty minimal. The average bathroom stall is wide enough that the would be theif would have his arm in your stall up to or past his elbow, at a level that virtually requires he lay on the floor. Then he would have to, at that funny angle, be able to draw the weapon up out of the holster and pull back quickly enough that I don't grab his hand, break his arm and then drag him under the stall partition and proceed to beat him within an inch of his life. Would probably give him a swirly for a grand finale.


Of the many concerns I've had while carrying, this is not one of them.
