Why no love for 6.5s? I have a 264 win mag in a model 70. Loaded with 107 Sierra MatchKings it kill nutria out to 425yds without a hiccup.

If I could build I would consider a savage action or Rem and custom barrel, lots of good choices. 6.5s have a great BC. 260 Rem would be a reasonable cartridge for manageable recoil with the BC advantage of the 6.5s.

Can you tell I am partial to anything 6.5?:p

6.5 is an awesome cartridge in whichever that one that happens to be..it has its shameful shortcomings, the only caliber offered in popular production or whats left it is the 260 remington which is limited in quality brass selection.

Where 6.5x47 lapua and 6.5x55 are in short of quality production rifles why this is.. who knows.. id love to have them made up in a quality rifle.. tikka is the only one I know 6.5x55.. as for the 6.5x47.. no idea..

Zak should put together all the people that played a role in his rifle build and have them produced id buy one as would im sure 100's of others who browse the forums and his website.

bambam, cz has some very fine firearms. my cz 527 varmint kevlar .223 with 1:9 twist shoots best with 55gr bullets, i have tried 40/62 etc.. satisfying is finding which one works best for your rifle

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who helped me in this thread. The purchase was made today.

I got a sweet deal on a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .223

I had them outfit it with a bipod, sling and scope. I absolutely love the look of the gun and now just have to find somewhere to go hunt the groundhogs. :)

In my case, it's almost trivial (other than cost): step 1. Buy AI-AW in 308. step 2. Buy .260 Rem barrel from GA Precision.

Rebarelling any .308 rifle is not a big deal, and that's really the only barrier to shooting any of the mid-size 6.5's.

Here's where I plug my "6.5 Leopard" (6.5x300wsm) for sale on the classifieds.
M70 with Broughton stainless barrel, Bansner stock, rumored to have been built by Bo Clerke.
Comes with brass and bullets!

Howa

I'm a guy with way to many hobbies, between salt water fishing, golf, firearms and hunting, it can get pretty expensive, so to keep my better half happy, i had to keep my varmit rifle and accessories to $1000 or less. I did a lot of looking, reading and comparisons. I ended up with a Howa 1500 Varmiter Supreme with Pepper Laminated Stock SS heavy barrel w/ 1:12 twist, 22-250, Leupold rings, Mueller Preditor 8.5 - 25 x 50 scope, Caldwell 23inch bi-pod, Browning sling, Molle Digital Sniper Drag bag and Hoppes Viper Boresnake Cleaning Kit = $990 I'm running Hornaday Superformance 50 Gr ammo with the gun zero'ed at 200 yds. Even my girlfriend (first time shooter) was able to do 3 inch group.
