I dont really like the stock grip on my AR. Time to change it out i guess. Oh No!!!

I like Hogue's stuff on pistols and revolvers, however i have no expirence with their AR grips.

Magpul has a great name in the industry, I love their magazines and im sure their grips are awesome.

And there are many others like Tapco and CAA to choose from what should I get? Why?

The Ergo Grip is pretty good, and the finger grooves aren't as over down as some of the others. It soaks up recoil well if your shooting a .308 or other big bore AR. I personally prefer the Tango Down grip for a 5.56/.223 AR that's not going to be used for precision shooting, no finger swell and a little smaller then the Ergo Grip. The Magpull MAID is decent, though I find it a bit boxy for my taste. One of the best ideas I've seen recently, is to just fire up the dremel and go to town on a stock Colt style AR grip, sand it down and stipple it. Here's a link:

Tapco is going to be near the bottom of the rung in price and "niceness", but they're functional; Hogue will be near the top.

Here's what a Hogue AR grip looks like:

And one of their products on a RRA carbine:

I love my ergo grip. I have the ambi grip since it has no palm swells or thumb rest. The standard A2 grip isn't terrible in my opinion. I would love to try the Tango down but Ergo is probably gonna be my go to.

I tried a few but what works for me is a UTG grip, I forgot what it is called exactly but it has a kinda "bump" or swell on the right hand side that accomidates my large hand and allows just my upper finger to pull the trigger instead of my hand "hooking" my finger over the trigger to fire, that little feature really eases up fatigue on the shooting hand on those long days.

I have tried all of the following AR grips:
stock plastic A2
Ergo original hard plastic (right handed)
Ergo original rubber overmolded (right handed)
Ergo "Deluxe Tactical" rubber overmolded (ambi)
Hogue
Magpul MOE
Command Arms Accessories modular plastic/rubber grip
Advanced Technology (ATI) hard plastic grip with finger grooves

Among all these, I like the Ergo "Deluxe Tactical" rubber overmolded best for shooting at a bench or other short-duration shooting. Extremely comfortable for short periods, but becomes a lot less comfortable after 5+ minutes of continuous holding the grip. It's also the largest and most expensive grip on the list above.

For longer-term shooting, it's about a three-way tie among the Ergo original (rubber overmolded), Hogue, and Magpul MOE. Here's some comments on each:
Ergo - comfortable, fits nearly any hand, not very hand-filling
Hogue - quality construction, nice feel, but does not increase the length of pull and that's a downside compared to others if you have large or XL hands
Magpul MOE - well made and fits most hands, does increase length of pull, but is hard plastic and not all that ergonomic or comfortable as the rubber overmolded grips

The Command Arms Accessories modular plastic/rubber grip was such a disaster I returned it. The inserts fit too loosely and the attachment point was molded too small so I couldn't install it.

The ATI grip is pretty good for the money, but the finger grooves are too deep for my taste and for about the same price I'd rather have the Magpul MOE. Also, its attachment point was molded a bit too small/tight and I had to dremel it with a rotary file to get the grip installed.

All of these except the CAA seemed well made enough to use on a "duty" gun.

The Magpul MOE and Ergo deluxe tactical use special mounting hardware (included with each). You can't use standard hardware with either one due to their size differences. I don't like Magpul's bolt - it has a big screwdriver slot, which is difficult to use compared to an allen head, and it comes with loctite on the threads so you're using loctite whether you like it or not. The Ergo's bolt is simply a longer allen head bolt and I have no complaints with it (it also uses a lock washer instead of loctite).

Magpul MIAD because of the options: Make it bigger or smaller, hump or no hump, built in trigger guard or not, storage space for bolt or batteries or leave it empty.

+1

The MIAD would be my choice if I ever return to the dark side

I have an ambi ergo grip. It's great. I'd imagine that anything other than the original A2 grip is gonna be worth the money, though.

Forgive me but....What?

The bolt is one of the most likely breakage items on an AR15 and is obviously critical. Some grips are designed so you can store a spare bolt (just the bolt, not the whole carrier group) inside the grip.

i run the magpul MIAD on several of my rifles, and the MOE on one, and the ergo grip on two more.

To be perfectly honest, i like the standard grip quite a lot. i've never felt the NEED to change grips. CMP/HP service rifle rules require you to keep the standard grip, and using it standing at 200 yrds and prone at 600 yrds is just fine.

still... the boxy magpul fits me better, and i run it with the fattest options from the full kit. i do like the ergo grip ok. i don't much care for the MOE and wouldn't buy another.

I have use the Hogue and the Tango Down grip. I like the Tango Down grip since it doesn't have finger grooves, and shooting it with thick heavy gloves seems to be easier.

I have the Ergo grip on mine, but that's only because my complete lower came with it. I like it though, and I don't see any reason to change it out except to perhaps exchange it with the Magpul MOE for the storage space.

I've had stock, a Hogue, and now an ergo. I liked the Hogue much better than the ergo but I had to try it just to see. I'm going to pick up a Magpul this weekend and see if I like it better and if not I'm going back to the hogue. Their grip fit my hand perfectly but I need to try other stuff makes me take it off.

I've tried the Stock A2 grips, along with magpuls MIAD, and MOE grips, hogue, and all of the Ergo Grips.

My favorite is still the Ambi Sure-grip Ergo. However, I'm really looking forward to magpuls MOE+ grip, a MOE grip with a hogue/ergo rubber exterior.

Happy shooting!
