Hello, im looking for a AR upper and have a list of things thats i want the upper to have:

16 inch barrel
Midlength handguard and gas system
Must have a fixed front sight
1/7 twist
Milspecs would be nice (came someone explain why its important to have this?)
Railed (if its not i can put one on myself)

Those are the features im looking for in my upper, if anyone has some uppers that fit that list please let me know!

nice upper but thats 950 without a bcg and charging handle thats a little out of my price range for now

hmm I dont think you need us, you know what you are looking for.

I would let ya know, 1/7 is great. but go 1/9 if you want to use a 22lr conversion.

bump your max bullet size down to 69 grain, and be able to shoot all the 22lr you want out of your cmmg conversion.

Its a good comprimise. just food for thought.

Since $950 without a BCG and Charging Handle is out of your budget, then throw out the rail, and you've got it paid for in terms of BCG and CH. Might want to go down to a 1/9" twist like dom1104 suggested, and might cut your cost down.

Otherwise, you're asking someone to sell you a used upper with the BCG and CH for free at the cost of the upper with or without rail.

Specify your cost (total out of pocket for what you described) and we can go from there.

BCM Standard m4 midlength 1/7" twist:
- Upper : $475
- Handguards : $20.00
- Rails: $302 (free float, DD Mid 10")
- M16 BCG: $149.95
- BCM Forged CH: $23.95

That comes to a total of $970.90. Take out the DD Rails, and it's $668.90. Quite a deal if you ask me. The previous BCM quoted to you earlier was for a BFH (forged, Hammered barrel). You make the call though.

Lol your description pretty much described 90% of the uppers in the market

i'd say his description matches about 1% of the uppers in the market

vast majority of AR15s do not have rails
are not 1/7
very few have mid-length gas

curious question: is the CMMG barrel metal considered milspec? I always wondered this, and have heard yes and no answers...

Bravo Company
Sabre Defense
CMMG

Those are the three that probably make the most mid-length 1/7 twist mil-spec uppers that I'm aware of.

Okay my budget is from 1 to 1200 bucks max, and i can always add a rail later thats not the most important selling factor, wat is is the 1/7 and the midlength(1/7 carbine is very common) and as pointed out not many companies make this combo, my friend has a CMMG midlength upper that he just got and put 100 through that had some serious jamming problems so i dont know if i want to go with that company.

The CMMG barrel metal is claimed to be mil-spec per their current website. Earlier versions of their website weren't clear and apparently everyone assumed it was plain 4150 and not milspec CMV. That whole topic isn't really important unless you have a full auto anyway.

The CMMG middie at AIM is going to be your best bet for the specs you want. And that, Noveske (too much $$ for your budget) and BCM are just about your only bets for those specs.

my friend has a CMMG midlength upper that he just got and put 100 through that had some serious jamming problems so i dont know if i want to go with that company.

I recently got a CMMG rifle upper from AIM. It clearly had never been fired, even test fired as far as I could tell, and the bolt group was also brand new, definitely never fired, and very, very tight. I took it all apart, lubricated all the necessary areas, and put it back together. I have put about 150rds through that upper with no malfunctions of any kind. I would ask your friend if every detail part of his bolt group is lubricated. If not, try that first. I would also check the carrier key staking because the key on mine is not well staked, and if it comes loose it will cause malfunctions.

If your friend shot Wolf with the bolt group dry, I would expect lots of malfunctions. ARs run wet.

BTW, most AR jamming problems are caused by bad magazines.

he was shooting PMC and even after he took it apart and very well lub'd the bolt group it still had the problem just not as bad but it mite be the mags but both are dif. brands and both were new

One of mine has over 1,500 rounds down range (including one carbine class) with no issues. Hard to diagnose over the net, but sounds like a bad magazine to me. 90% (+) of AR malfunctions revolve around the magazine. The last 10% are lube and (as previously mentioned) bolt carrier key issues.

When you get your AR up and running (or before), go to Bravo Company and stock up on good magazines. The PMAGs and Bravo Companies GI mags work great and are inexpensive.

Seems to be a sale going on. :D

PMC has been fine in my experience. Try different mags. I second Al Thompson's suggestion of Pmags or BCM GI mags. Beware that many other mags are not reliable designs or have iffy quality control; in particular Promag, C Products (especially their aluminum 30rd mags, the ones that are like USGI but aren't USGI), many other smaller and off-brands. The TAPCO mags have been so-so in my use. I have had no magazine issues with Pmags (after the initial batch that had molding issues, which Magpul fixed and recalled those mags), USGI mags made by D&H (sold various places and I think the BCM mags are made by D&H), and Lancer L5 mags.

Could get a SIG 556 instead, they have 1/7 i believe. I just picked up a STAG upper, w/ 1/9 and no rails, 16in, for $439.
