Hello all, I have seen many a folk slam Wolf .223 ammo.

What about Brown Bear .223 ammo?

From what I can see Wolf is polymer coated and Brown Bear is lacquer coated.

Let me know what everyone thinks.

Thanks.

I've shot both and I prefer the new polymer coated rounds. The Silver Bear which are nickel cases are good except for the laquer they use as a sealant between the bullet and neck of the case.

Go with the Wolf polymer coated rounds. They are a bit dirtier but are accurate in my AR15 and cycle with no problems.

The Silver Bear ammo is zinc plated, and I have had some issues with loaded rounds showing powdery corrosion after only 6 month of storage. Once those rounds are shot up, I am replacing them with Brown bear or the Wolf.

I would get which ever one still uses lacquer. Those rounds don't rust like the new polymer rounds or corrode like silver bear in humid areas. I would go with brown bear if I was buying more .223.

I use them all, but overall my best results are with the Monarch from Academy which is allegedly the same as Brown Bear, but the Monarch generally seems to group a bit better than the Brown Bear I have, especially in .223.

But for the shooting I do, steel plates, 2-liter pop bottles, etc. "quantity has a quality of it very own", so I buy what is cheapest when I need more.

Yeah the Silver Bear ends up coated in zinc oxide powder rather quickly around here. I'd definitely take the Wolf polymer over the Wolf lacquer though, but in general I prefer the Monarch/Brown Bear lacquer coated, but the preference is not enough to pay more for it.

Wolf BB is underpowered. All the barnaul (bear, monarch) ammo I've used is much hotter, more accurate and usually the same price. My ARs and AKs eat it all like candy but I won't waste money on Wolf BB again. I haven't tried Wolf military classic yet. I have used ulyanovsk, which is what MC used to be, and it's been similar to the barnaul. Rumor is there's no longer a difference in Wolf BB and MC though.
