to be specific, these are the PGO 500's with the "stand off" barrel. I'm wondering if they have the heavy walled barrel or not and if a Mossberg brand heat shield can be affixed. Obviously it can't if it's the heavy one. I'm building a project gun and need to use one of these or a 590a1. I'd rather go the 500 breacher route because it has the 590 style end cap/tube setup (=mag extension) but I don't know if it has the heavy walled style 590 barrel...or if a heat shield will even fit over those muzzle braked "stand off barrels"...

thanks.

well I have my 500A Breacher and 590A1 sitting next to me, I would say they use they same barrells(heavy)

no clue on a heat shield, I have never considered one

I just received a 500A for my birthday. I'm curious how I go about getting a breacher barrel for the thing. Mossberg was NO help at all.

No.

I have keys for all my locks, and I don't forcefully enter property I don't have legal access to.

If it's for looking cool, knock youself out.

Neither do I. Thanks for all your help. I hope your response isn't typical of this forum.

My apologies. I didn't mean to offend.

I should have asked you what interest you have in a breaching barrel for your Mossberg, as it is an exotic item with a very narrow application. I DID look around the web for vendors selling the item you are looking for, and didn't find one.

If you want it for the sake of wanting it, welcome to THR.
We collective spend millions of dollars for that reason alone.

If you are LE, Mossberg LE services may be able to help you:

Thank you, and thanks for trying. I came up empty as well. Thought maybe someone on here may have an inside track to somewhere.

Main reason I even mentioned the breacher barrel is because I believe it comes standard on the 500 model I speak of. That model is the only, to my knowledge, 500 that has an endcap magtube like the 590. I'll need that in order to apply an extension. I'd rather do without the breacher on the end, but it's the only way I could add an extension and the heatshield without a lot more of a headache, I'd cave. Plus if it's a heavy walled breacher barrel, it'll be of higher quality than a stanrd 500 barrel anyway.

Dang Mossberg and their 500 million different setups. They do sure make a fine gun though.

I know Mossberg sells them at will for the 870. If you REALLY love that breacher, replace your platform with an 870. Mossberg, Remington, both great. Decide how bad you want it. But I KNOW they sell it. Give Mossberg's customer service a call, and try Havlin Sales and Brownell's.

You might want to review Mossbergs special purpose guns again. Specificaly, I do not think they list a 500 with stand off barrel that has the 590 style magazine tube. I also do not find a Model 590 in their line that uses a standoff style barrel .

We carry those barrels for both the standard Mossberg and the 590s. We have a NFA 16" and two 18" models. I'm not realy a "retail" outfit, but do sell them to civilians.

That said it sounds like what you need is just one of the 18" 590a1 models, or even a 835. Either will allow you to mount an extension. Mike at Mossberg LE listed above has 100 or so 18" 590's in stock with bead or ghost ring sights, as well as the tactical breachers. Mike also makes a heat shield for those barrels.

Good luck.
