When I cam home for leave from Germany in July 08 I sent my 1991 Commander off for some work and received it last week. Eric Zinn did a super job making my vision into a pistol.

I wanted a carry gun that had the upgrades I wanted but kept the lines of the original Colt as closely as possible.

Now if I can find some ammo I will get out a range report.

I am envious of the short beavertail on that grip safety. Most of the time you see ones that curve up dang near to the moon.

Perfect!

Is it a Combat Commander, or Lightweight Commander?

You will have to let us know how it shoots...

Good call, Earl! I understand the purpose of a beavertail, but at some point they begin look kind of obnoxious.

So Hinton, is that a custom beavertail? If not, what brand is it? I want that combination of true commander hammer and short beavertail on a full-size someday.

GZOh and Earl:

It is a steel framed 1991 Series 80. I chose the the beavertail for exactly that reason, after looking at just about everyone out there I settled on the Smith and Alexander grip safety and Eric blended it perfectly.

Nice gun.

I also like to have good gunsmiths give attention to my carry guns. Do you mind listing the specifications you gave the 'smith?

harrygunner:

Here's the list.

- Cut slide (Novak cut) and install Hienie Str 8 Tritium front and rear sights
- Reliability and action job (3.5-4.0 lbs trigger)
- Fit and install EGW Commander Hammer
- Fit and install Kings trigger (the only solid non polymer black trigger I could find)
- Cut frame .250 radius and install and blend S&A Grip Safety
- Fit and install Nighthawk Thumb Safety
- Install and blend brown MSH (25 LPI)
- High cut frame.
- Mild dehorn
- Tighten slide to frame fit
- Fit and install Baer oversized match grade barrel and brown bushing
- Serate back of slide to match Hienie sights (serate spare extractor)
- 25 LPI front strap checkering
- Lower and flare ejection port
- Finish in Ion Bond with flats polished (400 grit)

Very nice. I really like the hammer and the finish. When my CZ gets too ratty from competition holster wear I'm planning to send it off to Springer for Ion Bond work.

Very nicely done Commander. I love the grips. The man knows how to fit a beavertail. They don't get much better than that. A big +1 to your smith.

Thanks for your service.

ballpark figure for all that work?

I'm guessing $800-$1200.

NICE gun and congrats.

Got this one last Friday and it's bone stock as-of today. Hope to add some of the mod's you've made on yours soon!

Great set of upgrades. I had similar work on my two 1911 carry guns.

Now, the hard part, forgetting the gun and focusing on further training with that fine weapon. ;)

 Beautiful work. I have the same pistol (althou mines still box stock). In thinking about how I want mine done... Yours is the picture. Perfection is finely tuned COLT and you got it.
Will
