Please discuss...

I love to shoot...but I also want something for my nightstand. They both feel great...and I know the CZ is cheaper, but does either one have an edge other than price?

If you shoot it well and you like it then go for it. CZ makes a durable, accurate, reliable firearm at a great price. I would go for nightsights and if unavailable then that would be a deal breaker for me.

That being said my nightstand handgun is only if it is necessary to move throughout the house and as a back-up to my home defense shotgun. I feel both serve their role in home defense and therefore keep both around. You can get a good used home defense style shotgun for 200 dollars. This of course depends on your situation and there is several reasons this may not work for you.

Well...I also plan on carrying this handgun and shooting it. It may be a car rider as well...

The P01 is a much cheaper gun. NIB is about $550 and the BHP if you can find one NIB it is $700.

I own both. Personally I love the BHP more than the P01 but I am a BHP freak. I currently own 4 of them.

You cannot go wrong with the P01. Manofsteele has some listed in the classifieds for $540 shipped. http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=481458

I've only got three BHP's at the moment, but I'm scheming on more...really once you get a Hi Power, you'll wonder how you ever did without.

If cost is a big stumbling point, might I suggest a nice Argentine Military HP? They can be had for around $300.00...Check Gunbroker out,and GunsAmerica.

own both...for what it's worth here's my comparison...
the HP fits and points better in my hand...just puts sights
on every time seems like...BUT, it's SA mode with no
grip safety makes it a lawsuit about to happen in
defensive or police use..under stress got to learn to keep
finger up off trigger. P01 is heavier, feels thicker and stouter
in my hand, a little less on point naturally. Of the 2? I got to
say the HP is my favorite
over-all...just get some practice with the thing and remember it is
a quick go under stress! In fact, are just not any handguns
that I like much better than a HP. closest thing I've found to be
as favored in my hand is the H-K p2000sk, including my old 1911.

CZ makes awesome stuff but I don't have any experience with the CZ75. I really really like the BHP though. Always have.

OK -- Both are great guns. Comparing apples to apples -- Mark III Hi-Power to a CZ 75 -- which appears to be the better quality. I sort of like the blued finish of the standard Hi-Power. Is it a "classic" blue?

If you look you can find a Hi Power cheap enough. I just bought a SS Belgium Browning for 400 shipped.

Yeah I used to have one of those. Nice pistols. They called them satin chrome IIRC.

you can find BHP for cheap if you look around. I got both a FNH high gloss BHP and a Belgian captain model for $500 a piece. I love the hi power so much.

However as a CCW I think I would rather have the P01, its a bit more compact, and double action is my preferred carry type.

If u get HI power in .40 SW , that s the best . More energy downrange and a bigger hole.

If the BHP hammer bites you replace it with a Novak or C&S no bite hammer.

IMHO the P01 trigger is okay. It smoothes out over time but the DA is not as nice as Sig and the SA is no where near the BHP.

Some people report that their SAs are rough but that has not been my experience.

I find that the CZ fits my hand better. Never had a problem with the single-action pull in a 75B (my first handgun) and an SP-01 (traded to my dad), but the DA was pretty heavy.

Sight selection is weak, though, if you don't get on with the factory sights. MMC and Meprolight make 3-dot tritium options for most of the major models, and there's competition sets, but you can't get standard Novak or Heinie sights easily (whereas you can with the BHP).
