I am in need of a hard case for my 870 shotgun.
Can you give me some alternatives to the Pelican cases?
Not that I am opposed to buying a Pelican case, but a less expensive alternative would be nice (the Pelicans are 1/2 of what I paid for the gun).

Is this for an 870 Express? You brought it up in your post, it's going to be hard to find anything that is nice and a good value that won't be near half of what you may have paid for the gun. Unless you are taking the gun on an airplane, why don't you just get a soft case and keep it in that?

Kalispel cases are nice. I have the Cabela's bulletproof version for my Winchester model 70. Pretty nice and heavy duty. There are some other options, but like I said, the price may be prohibitive.

Just to clear it up....I "want" a hard case. I want to be able to grab it and carry it in my truck without worrying about damaging the gun.
I have an 870 Police Magnum that I managed to pickup nicely used.
I do not anticipate airplane travel, but would prefer descent level of protection....soft cases with good padding I suppose would work, but I have not seen any in the local stores that are more than a basic "sock".

I just Googled Doskocil cases because I've been using them for years and so did my father and uncle. Not bad cases for plastic and foam.

So google sends me to Plano cases and the blurbs say "FORMERLY KNOWN AS DOSKOCIL GUN GUARD."

For $50 to $80 they'll last a long time behind a truck seat.

But Cabela's still has Doskocil cases, so I don't know what's up. Here's an $85 shotgun case.

After checking out the Plano's in the store....they look and feel amazing cheap.

Is there a middle of the road option?
