High Quality High Dollar Pocket Pistols

The R9 is great but is rare and IMO overpriced becauseof it's rarity. It is a high quality gun but it's not worth the price. But people willingly pay it so I guess the market deems otherwise. The NAA is will made and feels solid (read: heavy) the other choice is the new kahr 380. From what you listed it is the only one I would consider. The micro eagle is heavy and the trigger feels cheap to me. FWIW the main purpose of a pocket pistol os ease of carry and you can't get easier than the lcp or keltec. I had a p32 jam-o-matic and swore off pocket pistols.
Then ruger released it's lcp and I was brought back into the mousegun world. I like the lcp it is well made and does what a mousegun should do. Function reliably at close range. I use the hornady critical defense and have had no problems in over 500 rounds after the first hundred rounds of cheap break in ammo.

PM9. The Rohrbaugh is only slightly snmaller and is not +p rated. My PM9 has been through at least 300 rounds of +p and +P+. I put a mag through it every range session and carry it with Winchester 127 gr +p+.
You know, I've thought about that. I don't get into gun fights every day. I have, in fact, never been in one. Nor have I ever shot anything but paper. If a few extra bucks helps me survive such a situation, that's money well spent.
Exactly. Anything I own, I shoot and carry. If I were worried about losing it, I'd sell it. If it saves my life, it did it's job. I own and carry Kimbers, Kahrs and pre-lock S&W revolvers. Not $2000 guns, but not Hi-Points either.

The number of people who mix up the words "than" and "then" boggles the mind... (Than - comparisons) (Then - timing)

Who cares, I understand what he is saying. Would you feel obligated to correct a black person if one made the same error? I doubt that you would for fear of being called a racist, instead you are a hypocrite.

"PM9. The Rohrbaugh is only slightly snmaller"

Shorter, not as tall, not as wide and 1.2 ounces lighter. Significant differences for what I need it for.

I have no use for +P ammo in a tiny, short-barreled gun.

John

Just find a Downsizer. A very small derringer in 45ACP. Painful to shoot too.

I own and pocket carry various S & W .38 spl J frames (not at the same time) and have recently taken to carrying the Sig P238 as a second gun. .380is not MY ideal caliber for a primary carry gun. The Sig is "very high quality" but not "high dollar" as I got mine for $515 locally. Beware that it is SAO and some will not carry a cocked and locked pistol in the pocket. The safety is very positive and takes a firm, but not difficult push, to move the lever off safe. I carry mine without worry in a Nemesis pocket holster meant for a J frame because it completely covers the safety. It's not the fastest to draw, but then pocket carry is more about sneaky deployment rather than speed, in my mind. Especially since mine is a second gun.

With all that being said, I eagerly await the MSAR Archangel, which I believe is getting closer, that will bring a high quality 9 mm in a DAO pocket carry size for $500-600. Hurry up MSAR

Dude, that MSAR is over 7 inches long. You have pockets that deep?

srsmith:

Respectfully, unless your pockets are a lotttt deeper than mine the fine HK P7 is not gonna meet the requirements of the originator of this thread..

I'm NOT bashing the P7 because I love 'em too... I have two, and a finer 9mm pistol I've yet to own (altho my P2000sk V3 is pretty close), but for carrying "deep in the pocket", I don't think, for most folks, the P7 will fit the bill.

I do think the P7 makes for a very good 9mm carry choice (I use a Kydex iwb when I carry one of mine), but it's just not that tiny or concealable in my opinion.. I use my LWS380 for that duty.

No offense,

Jesse

Surprised there hasn't been more mention of the Kahr P380. Smaller than the PM9, which is still a GREAT pocket gun.

Um, a revolver is NOT a pistol, which is what the OP asked about in the title of this thread and the choices he was considering...

Reading is fundamental. I think you are quoting the OAL of the Daytona OTF knife that will be available paired with the Archangel. Can't say how long the pistol is overall as few details are on the MSAR site, but I am confident that it will be fine for pocket carry.

Or he thought 7.1 OUNCES was the length.

Now, how in THE hell are you supposed to get your trigger finger in that Archangel trigger guard?

How about a good ol' Walther PPK, believe they make em in .380. Also, the Hungarians made excellent PPK clones with alloy frame (read: light) in .380 and 9x18... albeit they are hard to find, will run ~$300. They are called the SMC-380 or SMC-918, and are one of the (if not THE) smallest guns ever allowed to be imported post-68.

I'm trying to match all three of your requirements. I would consider the Kahr PM45 to be high quality, high dollar, and a pocket pistol:

If you gold plate a Ruger LCP, it would fit all three categories, but as it stands, it's not high dollar (unless adding the Crimson Trace laser helps to "up" the price):

Colt 1908 Vest Pocket Hammerless .25s fit all three if they're in great condition:

Colt 1903 .32s fit the category too:

I agree with a previous poster about the Walther PPK as well:

Good luck finding a PPK. More commonly available is the larger PPK/s, which is a PPK slide on a PP frame and THAT's the one which passed the '68 import rules. But when it comes to carry, my P3AT with a +1 mag extension holds the same number of rounds in .380 in a MUCH smaller, thinner, lighter package. Also, a lot more easily replaced than my 70s era PPK/s I've owned for 20+ years should it be confiscated during a self-defense shooting where I may very well get it back in crappy condition...or not at all.

That Colt Vest Pocket and 1903, while nice, aren't players in this discussion since the OP wanted nothing less than .380 in caliber.

I have both the Kahr PM9 and Seecamp LWS380. The Seecamp gets much more carry time than the Kahr.

The nice thing about the Seecamp is the fact that it is all stainless. A masterpiece in pocket carry.

Then there is that item the OP didn't ask about, the S&W M&P 340 with CT 405 grips. I certainly wouldn't rule out a carryable .357 magnum. 13.3 ounces. It gets more mileage than both.
Classy piece too.

keltec pf9 is the perfect pocket gun. 9mm, slimmest lightest, lazerlight is dead accurate without needing to sight it

Sorry, the PF-9, while it may "work", is neither high quality nor is it high dollar; both characteristics as listed by the original poster. Reading is fundamental...

"Um, a revolver is NOT a pistol, which is what the OP asked about in the title of this thread and the choices he was considering... "

Depends who's definition you use, I guess. I have great faith in the NRAs knowledge and they tend to use the term pistol to describe both revolvers and autos. I am an NRA certified PISTOL instructor and can teach the NRA PISTOL courses, which include info on both revolvers and autos.

This has been discussed many times before and posters can recite definitions that give credit to both points of view. The important thing is to remember that there are TWO points of view on this, and we have no idea what the OP meant.

I think the term 'handgun' reduces confusion on the issue, and am glad THR uses it as a forum title.

Not going to disagree that "handgun" refers to BOTH pistols and revolvers, but the terms ARE different. In fact, my Connecticut permit has on the top: "State Permit to Carry Pistols and Revolvers"...so...why the delineation?

Also, look at the THR titles for the sub-forums named "Handguns: Revolvers" and "Handguns: Autoloaders". Which one uses the term PISTOL in the description underneath? Hmmm? ;)

and we have no idea what the OP meant.

Yes, we do... Read the OP again. He asked about calibers of .380 (NOT a common revolver caliber) and better. He also listed Seecamp, Kahr and Rorhbaugh as examples. NONE of those are revolvers, nor do ANY of those companies even produce revolvers. So, Mr. Super NRA instructor, why did everyone else (except for one other poster) recommend or discuss semi-autos since that's what he asked about regarding a pocket PISTOL in the title??? Again. ;)
