I didn't expect to see these available till 2010, but my LGS had 2 in the case and I bought one today with stainless steel slide.

Caliber - .380 ACP
Action - DAO
Capacity - 6+1 or 8+1 w/extended mag
Length - 5.2"
Height - 3.75"
Width - .87"
Fixed Sights
Trigger Pull - 5-7 lbs
Weight - 10.2 oz

I think that TCP stands for Taurus Compact Pistol. It is obvious that Taurus is wanting this pistol to compete directly with the Kel-Tec P3AT and Ruger LCP. Here is what I found that the TCP has over the competition:

1) Slide lock that locks open after last round is fired.
2) Loaded chamber indicator
3) Not great sights, but a little better than the Kel-Tec & Ruger
4) Trigger does not stack much at all and breaks cleanly.

Comes with a carrying case you can hook on your belt with magnetic closures. I'll update this post again with a range report later.

I think the MSRP is around $350. I got mine for $309. I'm sure the price will go down some once the newness wears off.

Does it have the famous Taurus Security System like every other Taurus? Also, will it fit into pocket holsters made for P3AT/LCP?...Thanks!

The last round lock open feature is great. That's about the only thing I'd like to see improved on my LCP...

Interesting!

How's the size of the trigger guard? It looks a bit bigger than the LCP or Ruger openings...

The trigger guard opening is spacious as you can tell from the pictures. It does have the Taurus Security System.

Another bonus: Comes with 2 mags. I think the Kel-Tec and Ruger only come with one.

Range Report: I did a cleaning to the TCP before going to the range. I ran 100 rounds of Blazer, WWB and Federal Hydroshok through it. I had no FTE's or FTF's. I did have one instance where the slide locked open when the magazine had one cartridge left to load. Accuracy was way better than the Ruger LCP or Kel-Tec P3AT. During one session, I hit 21 out of 24 rounds within the 9 circle on a B34 target (real good for me). The gun was snappy and like to jump in my hand a little bit. I put my shooting gloves on after the first magazine to help with the sting. After the range visit I cleaned it up again. I noticed the plastic mag follower in the magazine has a metal insert in it to prevent wear when engaging the slide lock (another plus).

I can only get 2 fingers on the grip. I'm hopeful that I can get 3 fingers on the grip when the 8 round extended magazine is available.

Since this is the best TCP thread here IMO, I figure I will post here...:)

I bought several autos as presents for myself over the holidays, and the TCP is one of them. One of the reasons I picked it over the Ruger is because, unlike the LCP, the Taurus does lock the slide back after the last round. Well... mine doesn't quite do that.

As you can tell from the attached pics, the little lever that is supposed to catch the "shelf" on the magazine follower falls a bit short. It sure looks like Taurus purposely trimmed that lever for some reason (maybe to clear some bullet types?), but they may have trimmed it a bit too much. I didn't catch this at the store, because the lever does drag on the side of orange plastic follower enough to push the lever up and lock the slide back. Only after I got home and looked at the inside did I see the problem.

I did a search and found other TCP owners also experience the same problem:

I called Taurus customer service and was told to send the magazines back for replacement. I think I'll just send the whole thing back. Academy will ship it back to mfr for service up to 1yr after sale.

I still like the TCP a lot and am not going to let this hiccup sour my taste for Taurus - as long as they fix it for me. Every mfr has teething problems occasionally, even highly regarded ones like Sig is not immune to it (witness the latest P238 recall).

BTW, I still can't believe the PT-101P I bought on sale at Academy for $299. Every bit as good as the Beretta at half the price. Has a better frame-mounted safety/decocker to boot.
