I stop in at one of my local gunshops to look for reloading components.

As I browse around I hear a woman's voice PROUDLY say. "Hey, I called earlier and I have that ammo that I don't need. You will still take it right?" It was almost like she was doing a public service by turning it in. (just my opinion)

I move down to the end of the isle to get a better look and there she is with two kids dropping off three 12"x12" cardboard boxes full of older ammunition.

My jaw just dropped, there was a couple of boxes of .38, .22 lr and a PILE of shotgun shells. I wished I would have caught her in the parking lot about 5 minutes before and I would have taken the burden off of her. A day late and a dollar short. I guess she could have turned it into the law instead.

On a side note, I did get CCI 1000 small pistol and 1000 large rifle primers

So what do you think? Did she do a good deed?

She got rid of something she didn't want and someone will get to buy something they want. The gun store makes some money for being the middle man. Looks like a win win win situation. FRJ

She could have turned it into the police and they would have destroyed it while the Brady gang cheered.

If she's not planning to teach those kids how to shoot then keeping the ammo around would be dangerous. Kids like to experiment.

IMHO there are better ways to give things away. 8mm I say 8mm, yes we have 270 gas checks 1,000 gas checks. [hint see free thread]

She could have been disposing of ammo that she or her husband diddnt need, couldn't use, or thought was beyond its shelf life. Ive seen that happen at my range. . .

My father's gun cabinet is full of ammo people have dumped on him. Normally its because of a divorce, break up with a boyfriend, death of a husband or father or a son moving out.

He showed me a bunch a few weeks ago. Much of it he does not have any use for like some 357 Sig and 380 ACP someone gave to him. Also a box of 357 rat shot.

I can very much see a woman dropping it off at a gun shop or police station, especially if they are not the type to sell things.

STM,the gun shop aquired a huge liability sell ammo of unverifiable condition. Still,IF the ammo isn't reloaded or defective it is a win/win deal.

I just gave away some ammo a few weeks ago in calibers I no longer have.

I worked in a gun shop. Happens on a semi frequent basis.

Unless the boxes (and ammo) were in very good condition I doubt very many gun shops would resell it.

I view this as a good thing. It is much like giving old or unneeded ammo away at the range you don't use anymore. Great idea. Better than throwing it in the trash.

Someone at the shop probably took it home with them rather than selling it unless the ammo was collector worthy.

I wonder if I should take out a radio add offering safe free disposal of unwanted ammunition? That could seriously help subsidize my dependancy / addiction to shooting. Speaking of which I better go get my fix. But before I go I wonder if the government is offering a program to wean me off my addiction by subsidizing a new addiction to less expensive calibers?

Gentleman, a few of you may notice your posts have been deleted for speculating that this woman is somehow taking revenge on her husband. As no evidence was provided to even suggest this, please refrain from posting such assumptions.

She did not want it. She gave it to someone who would at least see it get used and not destroyed/wasted.

Maybe we should put adds in the paper. "Free ammo disposal". Maybe some lady will drop us off her late husbands cases of ammo with us. (Hey, might as well dream big)

I would hate for someone to give me a box of miscellaneous ammo. There would probably be a couple of rounds in there for a relic and then I would have to search for a gun to fit the ammo and if I did find it would then have to search for more ammo to fit the gun.

And it being illegal to ever sell a gun I’d be stuck looking for ammo the rest of my life.

Totally screwed up. i would have got her name and address as well. could have been some guns she did not have around and wanted to give away as well.

Nothing wrong with what she did. She took the responsibility to find a safe method of disposing of unwanted items. I've caught friends and sisters whom had no interest in guns throwing ammo in the trash. I politely informed them to just give it to me next time.
