I was thinking today about how in the winter, people wear thicker and heavier clothing. As I thought about that I decided to replace the ammo in my CCW from Hornady Critical Defense to a deeper penetrating round, the Winchester PDX1.

Hornady designed the Critical Defense for everyday carry by the CCW citizen who does not need to penetrate auto glass and walls, but clothing and have superior expansion. But in the winter it seems necessary to have the extra oomf of a deeper penetrating round for the thick winter coats the BGs wear.

Anyone else do this?

Only in my .380 guns. I go FMJ in winter for added penetration through heavy clothing. All other calibers stay the same.

NO.
Anyway, I think you are missing the main selling point of the Critical Defense ammo anyway.

It is probably the best on the market for NOT clogging on heavy winter clothing and down coats and failing.

Most other conventional JHP ammo has problems with that.

Pressure will go up with temperature. That's the major change but it won't be enough to significantly change handgun performance.

NO !!! I don't change I tried sweaters on them but caused feeding trouble They just have to suffer same as I do. If a HP was to plug then I would have a flat nose ball round . I really don't see winter clothing slowing up much or stopping a bullet traveling at around a 1000FPS

No.

If additional clothing worn by an assailant in the winter clogs a hollow point, disallowing expansion, penetration will be deep. If it doesn't clog, the bullet will have functioned as designed.

Also, my state has both very cold winters and the lowest rate of morbidly obese citizens in the country, so I wouldn't know what to make of that. :D
