What's the weirdest gun(s) you've ever actually held in your hands?

11.5mm double barrel pin fire

It was IIRC chambered in some French Pin Fire
Arabic writing on the barrels and on the backstrap. Exposed hammers and a really elaborate trigger guard (two triggers).

the thing that got me was the fold away bowie knife under the barrels.

Had not seen anything like it before or since.

The owner had picked it up in Morocco in the 50's and was trying to sell it to a gun store.

Store miked the chamber and determined there was ammo available for it. But they passed on the deal.

But the weirdest gun I've ever held was a WA2000. Some old bullpup sniper. I forget the exact story on it, but it was in the .300 Winchester caliber, not the 7.62x51. It was at this place called the German-American Marksmanship Club or something like that. It was pretty cool though.

Rather rare firearm, intended to be an very accurate semiauto sniper rifle.

Ironwood Designs made or used to make a stock kit for the Ruger 10/22 that replicated the WA2000's look.

you lucky lucky man

thats the only sniper rifle i know ill never be able to own even if i hit the lottery because they are so rare

they did make a limited number of them in 7.62x51 too but those are even more rare obviously

Mine was a bullpupp shotgun with the rear stock that moves.
Also an jennings .32 caliber, it was small but out weighed any other gun its size that i held.

Several decades ago I bought a Schwarzlose .32 acp blow-forward semi-auto pistol. I don't believe I have fired an entire box of ammo through it in all these years but it is one of those firearms I just cannot talk myself into selling. Beautifully made little jewel of a gun but qualifies as weird. Tom

Guy I met asked me to look over his WW2 Japanese pistols. Those Nambus are ODD. Like what non-ergonomic mad scientist made this stuff odd.

Fired a Steyr GB, wierdest jams ever. Like it would fire then just 'lock up'.

LeMat... the bastard love child of French and English revolvers.

Bunch of stuff vies for weirdest:

--Full auto Sig Pe57 (ran a magazine through it, what a beast!)
--MP44
--Lignose .25 ACP pistol--has a sliding trigger guard that allows you to charge the gun with your index finger
--Stinger launcher

I have a Martini-Henry pistol, single shot, .303 caliber, 4 inch barrel.
Made in the Khyber Pass, dated 1888.
My son sent it to me when he was stationed in Afghanistan.

Shared this thread with a friend who isn't a member here, but who has had an extensive experience with unusual guns. His reply:

Semmerling pistol .45 ACP by American Derringer -- even knowing that you have to chamber a round from the magazine each time by pulling the slide forward I could hardly get myself to do it smoothly. And not very ergonomic - very smooth for non-snag draw and very smooth to slide around in your hand with each shot. But the chance that a bad guy would get it and shoot you with it is almost nil if there isn't a round already in the chamber.

Sterling pistol in .380 auto with 1.5" barrel but seems to have even more length than that out the back. Action is normal but looks very odd.

Crossfire rifle in 12 ga (4 shot) over .223 semi-auto. Now if they could be modified to use the Wraithmaker 20 round 12 ga "drum" :)

Stinger Pen Gun in .22lr. What a trip to unfold it for loading, fold it back to look like a pen in that it is a cylinder and then you have to unfold it to fire. For those that love origami.

Anzio Iron single shot .50 BMG. To load it you unscrew the butt, chamber the round and then screw the butt back in. A good way to get your true black powder muzzle loading friend to make the step to a cartridge gun - slow and thoughtful at the range.

.223 Derringer - something like .25" of rifling.

Hi-Power with wooden stock/holster. I was about 10 and I honestly cant remember if I shot it or not. The owner was a very eccentric friend of the family. I've handled a couple luger's, the action always amazed me.

I got to run a three gun course with a PS90 and Five-Seven pistol once. The pistol was pretty conventional but the PS90 seemed very different. I've also shot a DC Engineereing Bullpup SKS. With both hands on the pistol grip it handled like a very large pistol.

@Dimis I'll look for it, but I remember reading somewhere that Earl Sheehan Jr. was offering to sell a guy one 2nd series one, NIB for $75K. :what: So if you have $75K laying around :neener:, you could probably swing it from shooting the guys at carlwalther.com an e-mail. Idk.

EDIT: http://www.snipercentral.com/wa2000.htm (not sure how old this link is, but this is where the guy said it was up for sale.)

Swiss mini gun? Little pinfire revolver, used mercury or some such as the propellant. You could probably hold half a dozen of the things in the palm of your hand. I don't know the actual designation, but an old neighbor had one, when I had an apartment in the sunshine state some years back.

I guess I would have to say a Jo Lo Ar 9mm Largo
joloar.gif

and another Largo gun the Astra 400
astra.gif

The Astra is a Blow-back 9x23 Largo (SLIGHTLY hotter than a 9x19, NOT 9x23 Winchester!) and has a STIFF spring. I got mine when the guy that ordered it from me when I was an FFL couldn't cock it! I kept it and shot it and even carried it for several years. It was also the only gun I ever had an AD with. My wife experienced what she thought was a dud round. I took it from her after we waited a while in case of a hang fire and when I put pressure on the slide to open the chamber, it fired! I had it pointed away from anyone BUT I opened it with my hand BEFORE the chamber with the muzzle JUST under my palm!

J. Reid's "My Friend" Knuckleduster, a 7-shot .22 caliber derringer of sorts that also serves as a set of brass knuckles. Here's a link to a current auction on GunBroker that will give you an idea of what they look like, in the event that you've never seen one before.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=144280390

In the event that the link disappears quickly, here's another:

I've always wondered why someone doesn't make a replica of these today.

the palm gun, sadly it didn't pass the medical equipment muster. I've never had a chance to handle one of these but you'd be hard pressed to find someone who has.

For me, it'd have to be a Barrett .50 bolt action rifle, dear Og was that thing *HEAVY*, the bolt felt like it was riding on ball bearings though, beautiful firearm, if I had a spare $4K, I would have brought it home with me just for the cool factor alone

A .45acp Kriss, which we tested as part of the "real world" guns last spring. Had a very odd dynamic to it - you could hold it out in front of you, one-handed, like an over-large 1911, and the mechanism just held steady. Weird.

+1

I've had the honor of firing a full-auto one. A vendor of vector (not sure if its vector itself of an LEO/military sales company) uses the local range to test them out. Every now and again on a slow Tuesday they'll bring in some stuff. One day they brought in a trio of Kriss SMGs in .45 with the paperwork and everything. Very strange gun indeed. You feel the recoil, but it's an odd downward recoil that keeps the gun very steady.
