Wondering which gap to fill next (birthday coming up). Looking at a Ruger LCR for concealed carry, a 1911, or an AR-15. Already have:

1. AK-47 (7.62)
2. Ruger P95 (9mm)
3. Ruger GP100 4in (357)
4. Ruger Mark III (.22)
5. Ruger 10/22 (.22)
6. Remington 870 (12 gauge)
7. Savage Bolt Action (.308)

Wow, just realized how Ruger heavy that is. Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Hands down a Mosin Nagant. Everyone needs one! It is the volkswagen of rifles (volkswagen translates to "peoples car").

Maybe you can buy a handgun and a lower receiver for an ar 15. Take a couple months on builing the ar.

I kid you....

I wonder if anyone has ever taken the results of this type of poll and purchased the winning gun?

I love buying guns, and do so on a tight budget. I like all of you guys and I have learned a lot here, but I could care less what you think of my next purchase :)

Besides, it will be a 1911 and who could argue that?

Ok... I will post a poll....

Should my next 1911 (And my first!!) be:

A - The lowest price I can find.
B - The one I can afford.
C - The first one in my budget.
D - All of the above.

:D

As far as the OP - If you apply the above methodology than get the LCR, if you have no budget limit... get one of those shiny, sissy 1911's or an AR with all the bell's and whistles :neener:

I say AR-15. You've got just about one of every other "type" of gun. I personally would start there just to fill in the collection and then move onto a larger caliber rifle, say somewhere from .338 - .50, my two cents.

I see your "Gap" as a CC gun. Get the .45 if you live in the getto, the LCP in the burbs. BTW, I like your preference for Rugers.

The choice is to spend:

  • $400+ (LCR)
  • $800+ (1911)
  • $1,200+ (AR15)
  • Other (????)

Of course the 1911 and AR15 could be priced all over the spectrum, but I'm just shooting from the hip here.

How much are you looking to spend? What type of 1911 and/or AR would you be interested in buying?

If you were to name specific 1911s or ARs, it'd be an easier choice because how could you pass up buying a Nighthawk Custom for the LCR? Your budget, that's how. If you're asking whether to buy Ruger's LCR or a Vulcan rifle, I'd say don't waste your good money on the Vulcan, buy the LCR.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like the AR has the lead so far. A large caliber rifle has been considered, but I live on the east coast, so the .308 is more than I'll ever need hunting (although a .50 cal would be nice just to have). To Bushmaster: The GP100 is a wheel gun.

As for everyone else's concerns about price, you're right, I should have mentioned them. At my shop I can get the LCR for about $400, a Rock Island 1911 tactical for about $450, and an Olympic Arms AR 15 for around $700. So, yes, I could get the two handguns for just a bit more than the AR. Just trying to figure out which gap needs to be filled first.

AR-15.

Round out your collection with a little bit of everything, as to a whole lot of just one type.

Get out and compete in 3-gun. Grab your shotgun and your favorite tactical pistol and have a blast.

I'd say build your own AR, screw prebuilts. Visit the AR Megathread in SomethingAwful's The Firing Range subforum for awesome build ideas that won't rape your bank.

Well, why not all three -

Kel-tec instead or ruger - pt11 gives you high cap 9mm for cc and cheaper

1911 - Taurus - (I have customized Springfield and nice Kimber and still think the taurus I bought is one nice gun) also cheaper for all you get, might even leave you money for the rifle.

AR15 - harder to say - there are so many options - depends what you want - I would say get something with rails for mounting optics - fun to shoot hardly any recoil

AR's are weak... unless you get one in .308 Winchester... with a gas piston... but you've already covered the carbine/rifle catagories pretty well, so forget about it. I would put off the AR-10 until later and focus on what you don't have in any form.

Since you don't yet have the classic wollup of a .45 ACP, then I would inform you that falling in love with a 1911 is one of the great pleasures in life. The 1911 is coming up on its 100th anniversary, which puts the longevity, reputation and success of all other handguns to shame. Nobody has been doing it so well for 100 years. If the revolvers, clunk'n'tingers, and plastic guns were so much better, the 1911 would have died out... but it just hasn't. I could continue extolling the virtues of this fine design, but in the end it really just speaks for itself.

You don't have anything in the .45 ACP realm. You've more-or-less covered all the other bases except a pocket gun, but I would consider that icing on the cake. Pocket guns are just barely better than nothing, so fill up your kick-butt categories first.

Party on.

I think a .22 rifle (like a Ruger 10/22) should be
a must have.

Don't overlook the lowly .22.
The ammo is cheap, light, and it will work well for several tasks.

ARs are accurate and fun to shoot. You can use the P95 as a carry gun. I don't like lightweight snubbies so forget the LCR
