You need an ak to keep your ar company, but I thought everybody has a 10/22.

Check around for a Smith & Wesson Model 637 or 642. I've seen them around here for about $490 and Bud's listes them at $432 including shipping (though you'll need to pay an FFL to receive it for you).

It's very concealable, even with shorts, can handle .38 Special +P ammo, and is light enough to carry all day long. While it does have a kick with +P ammo, it's no worse than the LCP and with regular .38 Special, it's a lot of fun to shoot. The LCP doesn't offer that option. I really like mine; it's become my most frequently carried handgun.

Another possibility is the new Walther PK 380 which Bud's is listing for $308.00 delivered. I've seen it for under $400 in local gun shops. It's definitely bigger than the LCP, but it is still slim and easily concealed in an IWB holster with a loose shirt. It holds eight rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber and is a real pleasure to shoot. Spare factory mags are already available from S&W and I now have a total of three. I have had mine for a few months and have never had a problem with it feeding or extracting and I have fired as many as 100 rounds at a time through it (I've been buying up .380 ammo for the last eight months, so I have a pretty fair stash).

If I sound like I am trying to talk you out of the LCP, it's because I am. The LCP is too little gun for the round, too small and too light, and it is not pleasant to shoot. A box of .380 through an LCP will leave you with a very sore hand and some especially sore knuckles and finger segments. The PK380 is just .4 inches wider, 1.34 inches longer and 1.6 inches taller than the LCP and some of the height advantage disappears it you add the finger grip magazine extension Ruger supplies with the LCP. It also weighs about ten ounces more which makes all the difference when you pull the trigger.

THe Model 637 weighs just six ounces more than the LCP, if weight's a big issue.

A CCW is supposed to be for self-defense, not self-abuse. Sure, you can steel yourself to "handle" the LCP, but I look forward to going to the practice range with my PK380 and 637 (the 642 is good, too, I just prefer hammers).

Have seen some really good stuff (plus some junk) be it rifle,shotgun, pistol, etc. One advantage is you get to handle and examine everything of interest. Plus, you get to haggle price. Nothing like saving money. If your not in a hurry and want to "look" around that might be an option.

Since we're spending your $$ I've been sorta itching for a blue Charter Arms Bulldog in .44. Handy, inexpensive, and pack a punch.

ok, with that collection, i'd go for a .22 rifle if it was me. 10/22, Marlin 60, whatever floats your boat. they're just too much fun to not have one. i know what you mean about stupid moves. my first gun was a browning BL-22. i loved that gun but sold it to pay for college text books. i still regret it.

The 10/22 is always a fun and handy gun to have around. Or maybe another .22 rifle like a bolt action CZ .22...or a Browning or Ruger .22 pistol. The LCP is a great choice for carrying something small when it's tough to bring anything bigger....or to have as a BUG if you wish. The LCP is no range gun but I don't find it painful to shoot as long as you use moderation. That's subjective though. Some people say they can't get few a through mags without a sore hand. It's not designed to be a plinker that you fire a few boxes through per week. It's a last resort type of gun. I like them and even with the extension, they hide far easier than any 9mm and most .380s. Kahr makes a tiny one and the Taurus is also small...oh and the P3AT is pretty much the same gun.

.380 ammo is on it's way back. I'm finding piles of it for sale all over in the last month. The prices are more than 9mm, but not completely ridiculous like they were 6 months or a year ago. I would have mentioned a couple of revolvers too but you said you weren't interested in them.

I buy almost all my ammo in stores. I hardly every buy it online. I did order some through Cabelas online not too long ago and they had it in stock. Sometimes it's on backorder and you have to wait a couple of weeks.

Recently I've bought 4 different brands of .380 in the local gun shops and at Cabelas. I've paid anywhere from $16/50 for FMJ to $23/20 for some Corbon JHPs. Through most of 2009, none of these places ever had any .380 in stock. I think I ran into some one time in person. Now I see at least one or two brands every single time I go to any shop. That's a sign to me things must be getting better as far as availability. If you have to buy it online I'd go to the forums that are specifically for .380 pistols like elsiepeaforum or KTOG forum. People post who has it in stock and what the prices are all the time.

I just checked now and Cabelas has Fiocchi .380 FMJ in stock on their website. It's 17.99/50. They also have Herter's brass for $150/500. They also have about 1/2 dozen other choices that you can get shipped in 0-2 weeks or so. That's the first and only site I checked...but they have it in stock. I'm sure we could dig up plenty more if we checked around. Good luck!

I'll put a Ruger sticker on my PF9 and sell to you for 50% more.

Of coarse then I'll just buy another PF9 and ammo.

Definitely a .22 pistol. Maybe look into a .22 conversion kit for the pistols you already have.

I don't see why people swear by the 10/22. I've shot several and never liked them. Of course, I have a Remmy 597 and I think it's one of the most complained about .22 rifles on the market. No problems with mine though.

But if I were looking for a .22 rifle for fun and plinking, in your price range, I'd have to look at a M&P15-22 or maybe look for a deal on a GSG-5.

Everybody needs a .22. or two or three or four.

I dont like the fact that Ruger steals designs from Kel Tec, but side by side and shooting them... Ruger does Kel-Tec better than Kel-Tec ever could.

For my money I will go with the Ruger Rip Off.
