Time to play the SHTF game. The time comes, you grab your bug out bag, and whatever guns/ammo you are going to take with you. You HAVE to leave your house. Since most of us own more guns/ammo then we can carry, what do you do with the rest of your stuff?

Hide it the best you can at the house in case you get to make your way back to your home at some point, even if just to get more supplies. Maybe leave the safe open and make it look like someone already got in there?

Leave the safe locked and if someone gets in, more power to them?

Disable whatever you have left? Partialy disassemble, throw stuff in a canal, etc?

If you leave stuff there is a chance that you will come against the person that found your stash. If you disable it all, you leave yourself screwed in the event that you can make your way back.

Something else? I know I didn't cover all the bases. Staying at home isn't an option, per my requirements. So let's play nicely, mmmkay? ;)

Me personally, without seeing everyone's reasoning, will say that I disable everything I leave behind. Maybe put some stuff in well chosen spots in the event that I get a chance to come back. Another thought might be to arm my neighbors that I like. I won't be using the stuff so let's give them a chance, even if they might turn against ya if it came down to it.

This could also apply to other things such as food, water, batteries, etc.

I don't recall seeing this one before. I'll take any search links that come up without getting butt hurt.

How long will it take you to disable everything?

The reason you're bugging out may not allow time for such things.

The other tack would be to disable all but the "main guns" in advance, keeping all pertinent parts hidden until you want to take a disabled gun to the range.

Of course, if your main gun(s) break, then you need more time to get a disabled gun back online.

Me, I think I'll just leave them locked in the safe.

For a small SHTF like Katrina, when I know I will be coming back, I would leave most in the safe. Maybe cache some others in case the safe was broken into, I would not be totally wiped out.

For TEOTWAWKI I would take all guns an ammo with me as these are some of the most valuable and negotiable things to have, right up there with food and water. (Assuming that you can leave by vehicle).

If i'm leaving by any means of motorized transportation its all going with me. If its a I might need to defend myself against a looter or something kinda evacuation it will be transported legally per state laws with me. If its a total OH crap I gotta shoot to live that kinda goes out the window. The pistol goes in the holster, shotgun slung across the back and the AK in my hands. I'd take a bicycle before I would go on foot if at all possible. I'm sure you could carry at least as much if not much more than walking and travel faster and father with the same amount of effort.

If you don't have a way to keep others from taking it from you then there's little point in carrying food and water.

I also have a plan to meet up with trusted others no need doing all the hard work your self, taking the world back over from zombies or something will take plenty of hard work.

If I have to leave/can't bring a gun/ammo I would NOT wreck it. At most remove the bolt. (for most bolt actions/semi autos in less then minute) You can store them elsewhere. I would think a ammo can could hold the slides from half a dozen semi auto pistols, 5 bolt actions, a couple ARs and even a 870 bolt. (without them the guns are pipes)

Really hard to say with any accuracy, as each scenario would be different. Unless you're specific to the incident its a matter of firepower vs mobility.
A vehicle escape would generally include everything.
On foot, well its just what you can carry.

depending on how much time i had to evacuate i would get friends/family to join me and arm them as long as they knew how to handle a firearm ( i would hate to get shot in the back by a friend mishandling a loaded weapon). if i had no motorized transport available i would just leave it in my gun safe since i live in a very secluded area. if i lived in a major city i would most likely try to hide as much as possible in the event i could return after the smoke clears.

Personally I think I'd be calling up my trusted friends and family to help me lug the stuff.

In my case, I'd chuck the guns and ammo cases in my vehicle and go. I have the means to transport everything, and everything is organized well enough so I can grab it and go. If I had to leave anything behind, it takes but a moment to remove the bolt from any of my long guns and take it with me. Most handguns can also be disabled in a matter of seconds as well.

Realistically in a true NOLA bug out you've got a few hours max, maybe less than an hour to leave.

NOLA situation, I'd take a few choice items and leave the rest locked in the safe. That's why I have insurance and documents (pictures, serial numbers, etc.). If I had time I would consider disabling them by removing bolts and slides and hiding them, but that would burn precious time I suspect. On foot I can carry about 60 pounds maximum for a few days, provided adequate water and carbs and protein. In a vehicle I would take more of everything like water and food, and maybe a slight increase in guns and ammo.

In a TEOTWAWKI situation, why bother leaving home. Pull up the drawbridge and prepare for war, arm your friends...

No.

Number one, we don't "play" here. This is a working forum. There are plenty of other places on the InT3rWebZ to play.

And using SHTF in a thread title here is the kiss of death. No doomsday fantasies, please.

If you want to try the topic again as a serious question, it might do better...
