Is it worth the gamble (Taurus PT22 and PT25 for cheap).

My wife has a Taurus .25ACP and I just received a Beretta Bobcat 21A for Christmas (complements of self sorry to say [or maybe not]).

I have shot both and I can honestly say I would trust either equally in the role of at least a BUG (though many times it's my primary CCW when taking out the trash or mowing the lawn).

The one caveat here as others have mentioned is ammo selection--It can literally make the difference between life and ...

I have 2 PT22"s, one in pink for the wife and one with wooden grips for myself. After a couple hundred rounds through each they seem to shoot the CCI and Federal ammo all right. The only problem so far was in my wife's gun. I dry fired it several times and it peened the chamber face a little which caused some FTE problems. I ironed the place back down and it runs fine now. Neither pistol is extremely accurate beyond 10 yds. but they aren't intended to be. Both, however, are better than carrying a stick.

when i first got it, it wouldn't feed any thing...i played with the mag lips and got it working 95% on Fed bulk pack...it still will not function on any CCI...the 'pearl' grips cracked, warrentee sent new ones...bought a spare mag, and had to start tweeking that one too...i feel pretty confident should i need a back up to my P3AT..my biggest failure is off hand limpwristing, to which i can't blame the gun...gpr

If I could get the Pt-25 for less than 100 bucks I might do it for the novelty of it but otherwise I would pass. I have a PT-22 and its worthless in my book. The only reaspon we keep it is because it was the first pistol my wife ever bought.

If you want a cheap .22, why not try the Phoenix HP22. My wife loves hers.

+1 on the Phoenix. Buying a PT-22 isn't gambling to me, its more like throwing money away.

PT-22 Came apart

I just bought a Taurus PT-22 used. It had only a few rounds through it. I shot about 30 rounds (remington hollow point Wallmart ammo) with a few jambs as it would try to chamber the round. I loaded and started to rapid fire and on the fifth round the barrel opened and the whole slide came off and fell to the ground. I looked for parts on the ground and found nothing, but, it is clearly missing something as it will not close anymore. I am sending it to the factory on warranty.

Wow, a 6 year old thread resurrected. Heck, half the people who had posted on it don't even post here anymore. Anyway, I just think it is humorous that one of my old threads came up. Looking at these prices I quoted has me very nostalgic for the gun prices (even MD prices) of a few years back.

Well, I didn't end up getting the gun. A couple years later I went with a S&W 442 as my pocket gun. Then later, I picked up a used NAA Guardian in .32ACP for when I want to have an auto as a carry gun. Also, there have been some changes, administrative loopholes added to the MD laws. Both the locks and the shell casings can be handled aftermarket now.

Meanwhile, I am starting to doubt these small pocket calibers. I'm considering replacing the Guardian with a pocket gun in at least .380 and probably 9mm, so I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable with .22LR.

Still, if I ever see a PT22 (or any other small .22) for under $200 again I'll probably pick one up. I think it might be a fun gun at the range. But then, with today's prices I'm not so sure that will ever happen again.

My wife just picked up her Phoenix for $119. She's put a few hundred rounds downrange just in the last week. She loves it and is looking for another one to take with her on girls shooting night (for her friends). That's how much she likes hers. Check impact guns site. That's where she got hers.

I thought the PT22 had no extractor - empties just blow out. Yes? If so, how do you clear a FTF? Tap-rack-bang no good if the dud is still in the barrel.

On the Phoenix, I've read it is single action, with unusually complex safeties. True? How do you carry one for CCW? Empty chamber is kind of slow to present.
