yes, the Sub 2000 was made in a version that accepts Smith 59 series mags but they are hard to find. they seem to be the least popular version. they're out there though. just might take some searching to find one.
It's my understanding that the Camp Carbine is long-discontinued because they shot themselves to pieces. I also believe that can be remedied with aftermarket springs and a little work.
People love them, still.
Personally, I don't "get" 9mm carbines, but that's me. Might have been a fun toy when 9mm was 5 bucks a box.
I have one of the Camp 9mm's. better springs and recoil buffer enable the use of +P ammo. they are available but pricey. accurate though, and classy looking.
one of my nephews has a 5904 - he found the KelTec that uses the S&W mags and is happy with it. the owners manual recommends +P ammo in it. surprised that thing can shoot as good as it does with the just adequate sights. it puts a ringing on steel plates for sure.
it's my understanding that since S&W has discontinued the 5900 series KelTec has scaled back production of their model to take those mags and focus on glock and springfield models. I've seen them available though.
BC, I have a Sub-2K in the S&W mag configuration, as well as one in the Glock configuration. They've both run well for me, with my only complaint being the front sight being such a pain to adjust.
I'm in south central WI. If we can arrange to meet up, you're more then welcome to try the Smith Sub. Whereabouts in IL are you?
