Mag Tech ammo?

I haven't done any tests on it but I have shot Magtech .45 Auto, 9mm, .38 Special and .357 Magnum ammo and all shot well. It's accurate enough and the brass reloads well too.

I did buy one box of their hollow point personal protection ammo, but honestly, i have not tested it. The reason is because i also bought a bag of the same bullets, and loaded them my self. With my initial loads, firing into milk jugs, there was z-e-r-o expansion. I thought that velocity might be an issue, so i loaded up a set and worked them up as h-o-t as i could go without fearing (and actuall went to far) for my well being. The results were almost identical. There was just a little bit of opening up of the mouth. At that point, i did not have a chrono. But the primers showed definite signs of over pressure, the cases were bulged slightly, and the edge of the mouth was torn from hitting something on the gun on its way out. Trust me, you do not want to go there. The only way i could think of them working well is if maybe they hit something like bone. But a good hollow point is supposed to open in soft flesh. That is the point (actually, the hollow point). I would buy another brand. Personally, i bought winchester silvertips. If they were available at the time, i think i would have boughten remington golden sabres. By the way, the winchesters do open up. I have not tried anything else yet.

No testing but that's not why I use their ammo. I buy their .38 Special 158 gr. LRN as my cheap practice ammo. Works well & worst case give me the same load generations of police officers used. If I want something specifically as SD ammo, I buy something designed for that purpose. In my case that's the classic FBI load (158 gr LSWCHP +P) in Buffalo Bore's version of it.

I bought their MagTech Gold HP ammo for my 1911 and when testing it out it locked my 1911 up. It was locked up to where I had to hit it with a rubber mallet to knock it back into battery. Once I had that happen twice, I took a look at the ammo and they were very varied at the case mouth to bullet seating. I am guess that the two rounds that caused my 1911 to lock up were way out of spec and caused the dreaded three-point lock up. I will not run this ammo in any of my guns because I question their QC.

Now, their practice ammo has been good to go, but when you pay $30 for 20 rounds and they suck, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. This happened this past July and I have not bought their JHP's anymore. I run the Cor'Bon PowrBall ammo now and it ran a flawless 200 rounds through my 1911, so it's my carry choice.

I haven't had any trouble with them in .45 ACP FMJ, 9mm FMJ or .308 FMJ FWIW...

The 158gr. SJSP .357 mag is my favorite .357 ammo. I get the ones with the nickle shells, which is a nice touch. Never had a problem with it. For the price, it is very good.

I did some testing on the 44 Magnum stuff. The velocity was nothing to write home about but it was othersise OK. I'd recommend it if you want a load a bit on the soft side.

I shoot it in 9mm, 45acp and 38 super all the time w/o any problems.

I've only used magtech primers, not the loaded ammo. I've had a few problems with their primers. a few duds, some primers missing from boxes. not really conclusive, but in my opinion, it does not bode well for their QC. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for range ammo, but for when the shot counts, I'm going to look to something else.

Never had a problem, and have found it to always be reliable and accurate.

I have shot their "Cowboy" .45LC ammunition. Not real impressive. Was fairly dirty, accuracy was off, even from my 4" Uberti Regulator, which usually shoots pretty well. There were about 5 FTF out of a box of 50. I had another 3 where the primer was hard and it took a second operation of the cylinder to get it under the hammer for it to fire. My lever action rifle liked it even less. My lever action has fed reloads just fine.

The 9mm I have fired seems to function okay in my Beretta 92 and Glock 17. Quite honestly, I have had better results with CCI Blazer ammunition than with MagTech, but YMMV.
