Very nice indeed! Any time I need in my safe, the unit you made pops into my mind! I never have a place to put the guns so I can get to the back row. You have a beautiful answer to the problem. I've got to get busy. Mark

I wish I had the tools on hand to make one of these myself. Doubt it would turn out nearly as nice though!

I like it a lot!
Now you have my wheels turning too :D

I just wonder how to convince my wife that the guns are good enough to display. hmm maybe I need better guns!

Well done!! -now I have to go out and buy some oak!!

You may consider drilling some holes in the sides and running a cable thru the trigger guards to secure the guns.

Very nice work. I've been considering building something like this as well. Do you mind if I ask approximately how much the materials cost? If you don't feel like sharing, I understand.

I have a question. What is the small piece approx 1/3 of the way up on the two vertical pices. It looks to be about 2" X 5 or 6". What is its purpose?

Real Nice work, I might add.

Jeff--I think I have about 130-150 in materials.
Jake--I know what you are saying about a safe room. I won't go into details, but my house is pretty secure and I dont have kids to worry about.
jcwit--It is more decorative than anything else. It just breaks up the long verical pieces a little. You could, with the way it is designed, add another cross piece acros the back of the rack for additional support and tie it into this piece, but it was not needed in this case.

a few people (on other boards and people you have seen this in person) have mentioned about buying one of these. I had not given that much thought before but now it got me thinking. I have all the tools to do these. What do you guys think based on what you have seen would be a fair price for something like this? In other words, what would you be willing to pay, if you needed one and had the spare money to buy one? IS that a fair question?

I get a lot of materials from pallets. If you look around you can find hardwood ones on occasion. I knock them apart (or cut them apart if they used glued nails), run them through a planer, then the joiner, and end up with some awful nice FREE lumber. Got quite a bit of red oak from one lot of pallets.

Very nice work, but I agree with putting a nice oak back panel on the rack instead of looking at the wall, it would set the guns off much better and make it look much more sturdy.

It depends...

You should make decorative gun racks made out of nice wood, etc. The function of the gun rack could be duplicated rather easily. So, function is not the main point. Form is the main point. Sell to people with a little bit more money who want something nice and showy. If you make something solid and nice, then you could sell it for as much as a nice night stand. Basically, the selling price depends on your craftsmanship abilities. All of that is my opinion.

very nice! i was trying to come up with a way to store some of my long guns and then i found this. got some great ideas now, thanks very much for posting your fine work!

Awesome, very nice work. You should definitely try and sell them. On a model for sale add a cross brace just in case though. Figure if it's 130-150 in materials, add to that how long it takes to make it. I'd say $150 + $18 per hour to make = Good price

The only problem is you look as though you need to fill it up with some new toys! Otherwise the gun rack looks nice....just too empty.

I found four websites with Austin Powers drops and not ONE of them had "nice rack"

So I will just say I think that is gorgeous and how much do you want for one?

2 things--one-- for those that have asked, I have security covered in other ways so this is more of a display rack.
two--I do have more guns to put in, but if any of you have any extra laying around, please feel free to send them my way and I will be happy to store them for you on the new gun rack.

Cormon-no drawer , just a solid wood panel.
