i'm going to a gun show tomorrow morning with $500 to spend. i have a pretty diverse gun collection so haven't decided on a particular far arm to look for. what's at the top of the wish list in that price range for you guys?

For me it is ammo or reloading supplies. If it was to be a firearm, I am keeping my eyes open on a good deal on a Ruger M77 Hawkeye .30-06 or a S&W M17.

First on my wish list is $500 to blow at a gun show. :D

Given that, I'd bargain hunt. When that proved useful or fruitless, I'd probably look for odds and ends I could use... reloading dies, casting molds, primers, powder, bullets, magazines, spring kits, ammo, whatever tickles my fancy. Slings for rifles that don't have them yet, inexpensive cleaning gear, if it can be found. I'd probably keep my eye open for 22 rifles and revolvers ore a 4" 38 revolver, more than anything.

for me, in that price range i'd target .22 rifles and used .38 or .357 revolvers. if i found a glock 26 or CZ RAMI under that price, i'd think about it.

of course, just buying $500 worth of ammo sounds pretty good too.

Cause I pretty much get what I want (wife makes good money) buy what you really want IF you already have what you really NEED

what's at the top of the wish list in that price range for you guys?

need any scopes, reflex sights, or optics? mags? Spare parts? Five Mosins? Any milsurps in general? Some flavor of AK-47, '74, Saiga, etc.?

Those would be my choices.

That's a tough one. I'd look for ammunition and reloading components. At the last gun show I attended I was about ready to trade my old 4Runner for a G43.

look for a mosin nagant and buy your surplus ammo online!!!!!!!!!! I was at a gun show and they wanted $150 for 440 rounds(online its $99-$115!!!!!!!!!!!)

See if you can get a good deal on a new Trijicon reflex sight. I got one for next to nothing from a buddy, and I'm blown away. I've used pretty much every other brand of reflex CCO, and this thing blows the rest of them out of the water. Open design, always on, auto-adjusts to lighting conditions, lightweight and rugged.

thanks for all the good ideas. maybe it's time for an ak-47--got lots of ammo (factory and reloads) left after selling an sks. or a clean used .44 mag might be possible--same ammo situation. feel like a kid on christmas eve. no experience with mosin nagant--what's the deal?

Well you asked for what was on our wish list for around $500. Mine is a Ruger Blackhawk, or Blackhawk Bisely in .44 mag or .45 Colt, whichever I can find for the best deal. I'm looking to buy used, so hopefully I'll have enough left over for some dies and components for it.

I'd look for a good use 22 rifle or two or if you are lucky a Smith Model 17 for about that price.

I have a lot of anything I need, so I just go and see if anything grabs me. If I come away with out spending I will hit the local shops and then probably go back to the show again the next day. Here in Montana most of the shows run 3 days and I always go 2 days and often 3, because the displays are in flux all the time. I go in, make a complete round, taking notes and then get a cup of coffee and consult my notes and then follow up accordingly.

I'm thinking a S&W .41 mag with a 6" barrel in stainless..but that might put ya over the top on cash. Second choice for me would be a winchester or remington .22 target rifle...again, that might be a bit over the budget.

Butch.
