I remember thinking the same thing when I saw this on it's air date. Apparently, gun safety ceases to be a factor after "the end".

first time ive seen this. Ive heard its a good idea to keep your gas tank in your vehicle nearly full. That way if soething major happens that stops the fuel supply, at least ill have enough gas to get me about 200 miles.

Im not leaving my home.... ever. If someone decides they want what I have they better bring a lot of friends and as much ammunition that at least twenty people can carry. They will need at least that much to match what I have on hand!

Oh yeah, they should also be wearing body armor and have gas/protective masks.

"They may get me in a rush Ike, but not before I turn your head into a canoe." - Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp in "Tombstone"

Time to get ready...

Wow! I just watched all 9 segments and I can see the possibility of alot of that coming to pass eventually. I also cringed when, in segment 4, the revolver and pump shotgun were left behind. It also makes me glad I don't live on the left coast!

That kid....

*Rounds incoming, multiple impacts*

-Kid, while driving evasively: "Slow down dad, Slow down! Slow Do..(cue backhand)"

"GET DOWN AND SHUT UP!!!"

...I thank God for my WAR WIFE and my boys, and that my sons are not snotty little a-holes that have no respect for their parents.

With the obesity epidemic and erosion of shooting/survival skills in the general population, I'm suddenly much closer to the top of the food chain. :D

That was an interesting watch.

But this would have to be one fast moving virus to catch everyone in the world completely off guard. One thing that we have that previous victims of pandemics did not have is instant communication.

Wherever the virus starts would be hit hardest but the rest of the world would start to protect itself almost immediately. No flights in/out of that country, quarantines etc.

The survival aspect of the film was interesting though.

section 5 of 9 the woman shoots the armed goblin with the pistol and drops the gun!

They just had the chance to gain another weapon but lose the only one they have.

Why did they wait so long to leave?
I guess it fits the hollywood mindset.
I have not finished it yet but why did he not try and barter his medical skills for the food and water he needed?
He could have bartered with the townsfolk at the road block too.

I know, its just TV. On the other hand we are just a few days away from anarchy when the trucks stop running and the grid goes down.

oh well

I wasn't planning on watching all parts, but I couldn't stop watching. This series is definitely pro-gun because the narrator said many times that security would be a top priority. The implication about guns is obvious.

Honestly though, what has me the most scared is the water issue. One expert in this video was saying that 6-8 quarts per day would be necessary in a situation like this. That's freakin' crazy, and I sweat way above the average amount. A narrator also said you would have to get past the first 90 days before life started to become more normalized. Do the math (90 days x 2 gallons/day). Water is the hard part of the equation in a dessert area like in this video.

I think the History channel was trying to portray a family with average survival skills. Actually, I think their survival skills were slightly better than those of the average American family (LOL). It's good that the film will make people who are watching feel frustrated with some of the actions of the family. It's good that people watching will say, "Why didn't they do [this]." It makes people think. That's the purpose.

"Looks like this guy thought he was a bit of a cowboy" It was a snub nose revolver. Hollywood is always trying to demonize gun owners. Judging by how the mom acted she had obviously never really been exposed to a gun yet she was still able to make the kill shot on her first try.

That seems like an average American response to me. Any staunchly pro-gun reaction would seem unrealistic. Again, I don't think the History channel wanted this family to be role models.

Notice how the narrator kept saying that security would be a top priority, while they showed guns with all the people who were surviving. To me, the videos seemed to be weighted toward the pro-gun side.

Yes overall it was progun.

I hope it did make folks feel uneasy and think about what could happen. Being in L.A. the no food, water and power situation could happen 5 minutes from now with the next earthquake.

That was interesting and I did watch the whole thing. Surviving something like that is not just about guns. Knowing more about food and water gathering is tops.

I hope it is okay to list this but here is a forum I have just found and signed on to dealing with preparedness.

Like I siad I hope posting that address doesn't offened the mods. Its not a real busy site. Judge for yourself.

so...... SHTF threads are OK on THR now?

Usually us survivalists need to lay low here.

Okay, my turn for comments...
1. If my wife/partner were acting like that, she'd get a slap and a talking to.
2. How did that little girl shoot that shotgun without any recoil?
3. I'm glad I live in a small town with many friends that have a lot of guns and supplies and live in the country on farms.
4. I think the breakdown of society would be citizen vs. government, not citizen vs. pandemic/nature vs. citizen.
5. How did the husband manage not to get sick? I know he wore a paper mask, but come on, he was around A LOT of sick people.
6. Where were all of the gangs of L.A.?

No, they're not. But I gotta sleep sometimes.

Look, folks. No matter how kewl a mooovie is, it's still fiction. It is NOT training. There might be some worthwhile lessons to be drawn, but at what expense? Suspension of disbelief?

No thanks. Not here.
