will the trigger pull back but the cylinder will not rotate? If yours have the lock and it is engage the trigger will not pull back. If it won't pull back may just be a loose ejector rod. They can come loose and if not tighten it can get so loose it will keep the cylinder from rotating of course the trigger could not be pulled back either. It a little hard to tighten with it close but you sometimes can do it give it a try.

dollars-to-donuts it's a loose ejector rod. You may be able to tighten it yourself--just be aware that it is reverse threaded.

May be a simple fix if you take the side plate off and look but not what I would suggest since it's a new weapon I'm sure s&w will make it right. Let us know how you like it when it gets back 007

even if you could fix it yourself, i'd still send it back. s&w will likely do something to make up for your trouble. i know they often return autoloaders with night sights (when they didn't originally have them) and an extra mag. not sure what they'd do for a j-frame though..
