S&W Sigma SW40VE vs Taurus 24/7 Pro 40SW ??

Both are decent guns as far as reliability goes. The Sigma's are better now than they were when they came out. The Taurus guns, while I've talked to many who own them and swear by them, seem to be kind of hit or miss. You may get a great gun, you may get a lemon. You never know until you go shoot.

As far as accuracy goes, the trigger on the Taurus is smoother than the Sigma, IMHO, and tends to be a bit easier to shoot. Just realize that neither of these guns are target guns. They are defense guns through and through.

Personally, I'd go with the Sigma, because right now, S&W has a consumer rebate of either $50 or two free mags.
 
I'd go with the sigma, but thats cause I only really have personal experience with my sigma. Its been a great gun, no problems whatsoever. As for accuracy, out of the box when I first got it, the trigger was so difficult that i would shoot maybe a foot or so below the target! but after i got used to the trigger and fired off maybe 150 rounds, i could get sub 3" groups at 10 yards. (You can also "fix" the trigger to make it lighter and easier if you want for nothing. you can find another thread on how) Another plus is that you can prob get the sigma for $250 after the rebate and spend the other $200 for ammo and a holster. But I'm sure you cant go wrong with either.

I don't know what you can get the Sigma for I'm thinking ($299) but honestly if I had $450 to spend I would probably go with the 24/7. IMO the SA/DA trigger, and better sights would definitely make it worth $50-$75 more to me and I do like my Sigma.

If your really turned off by the Sigma's trigger or lack of safety then another good budget pistol to consider now is the Taurus 24/7. I have seen them regularly go for under $400 lately and to be honest IMO it is a better pistol.

My step sister's boyfriend bought one in .40 s&w a few weeks ago and I shot it last weekend. I think he said he got it for $360 from Bass Pro I believe. It was freezing cold out so we didn't go to the range and the only targets we had on hand was some empty 20oz coke bottles. I placed them (threw hard) off the back porch and loaded it up with some hornady ammo.

I was pretty surprised how nice the DA/SA trigger felt from the factory. No creep and it was pretty crisp, I mean we are not talking glass rod or anything but not bad almost comparable to my Sig p226 considering it was new and not broken in at all. At about 15 yds two hands with no rest, five bottles, five shots, five hits, not too bad. I fired the next ten as fast as I could get the front sight to settle on target and hit probably seven times out of the ten shots.

So while I still think the Sigma is a good deal for a cheap reliable pistol if your willing to tinker with it, especially at $250 with four mags when I bought mine, I think the 24/7 is really hard to beat at around $350-$375. To me the grip felt nice and comfortable, the finish was nice, the sights are way better (Heine's or Novak's) compared to the Sigma's basic plastic combat ramped rear and melted on front, I personally like having the extra safety for carry, and the trigger isn't even in the same ballpark. It also seemed to handle the .40's snappy recoil well too and I was fast back on target with it. We shot four 15 round magazines through it without a hicup and like I said it was the first time it was fired and he hadn't even cleaned the factory crap out of it. When we was done I took it down to clean and that was simple too.

Here is a link to Bud's, I was looking this morning and they are having a 24/7 super sale or something. I don't know if this has been going on for a while or not but it seems like their prices are pretty comparable to others I've seen locally.

I have no clue where you guys get these cheap Sigmas from. Where i'm at most of the SW40VE are around $379, while the Taurus 24/7 pro .40SW is around $399. My god if I could a Sigma for $250 or $299 I'd snatch it in a heartbeat.
 
Budsgunshop.com typically sells the Sigma 9mm or 40 S&W for $299.00 with free shipping. If you do not live in KY, there is no tax, just your FFL fee. With the $50.00 rebate that's $250.00 for a new pistol with two mags. You could opt for the extra two mags and skip the $50.00 rebate too.

I don't know how much they were before but when I linked the 24/7 to Bud's the Sigma's were about the same price as the 24/7($358 Sigma vs $363 24/7 shipped). You can still subtract the $50 mail in rebate but that does take a few months to get back as well as the two extra magazines. If I was in the market I would probably jump on one of those 24/7's. My FFL charges $15 for transfers but even if they charged double that you would still be in it for less than local when you add sales tax.

If you're thinking of the 24/7, make sure you get the DS version that has a decocker. They are selling these 24/7's for only $348 locally.
 
Academy Sports has the Sigma 9mm or .40 cal. for $299. this week and the S&W rebate is still on. I'd buy the Sigma and spend the rest on ammo. I do have a Sigma 9mm and never had a problem. Not on my sell or trade list.
 
I own a sigma and have owned tauuri and got great service from em all. BUT all the horror stories about Taurus'es customer service or complete lack therof always weighed heavily in the back of my mind.
