Bummed about my new LCP

Zero failures in mine with S&B, WWB, Mag Tec, Independence. Never tried PMC. Guess I won't now.

call customer service, great gun, and it should work for you....
But you might want to check your grip / hand positions / posture
something is eating recoil energy

especially after firing a big gun, don't let the size fool you, these pocket mouses are harder on the hands than most full size, full power "bruisers"
I dare anybody who braggs about thier .357 to put a few mags though a keltec P40 without limpwirsting

I would definately try to find another magazine before you send it back also. Mine would fail to feed every few shots. A trip back to Ruger fixed nothing as they tested it with thier magazines not mine.
I borrowed anothers shooters magazine to try and it ran perfect. Ruger sent me a new one when I called them but but I was a little disappointed they did not figure it out for me.

Hey guys, just an update, Ruger responded to my email and told me that the gun has a break-in period of 200-300 rounds. If it continues to malfunction, call them. I won't have time to run it this weekend, but next weekend I will put another 150-200 (assuming I can find them) rounds through it. Hopefully will have the new mag by then too. Thanks again and I will let you know how it turns out.

i have fired 350+ rounds to date out of mine. most has been PMC with no failures. I even shot 100 rounds of some cheap mexican .380 that produced no failures. I have also shot 19 rounds of Federal HS with no failures. I just recently paid way too much for some speer gold dots which i have not yet shot and almost don't want to since they have a good reputation and i would hate to shoot the whole box.

i do love the gun. keep it oiled.

I've not owned mine for long. I've put 50 rounds of Magtech through it. No malfunctions.

My opinions are still reserved on the gun itself though. Not so much on build quality or anything Ruger has done with it, but rather just on the platform in general. The gun is so small it's hard for me to shoot. My shots are all over the paper with this one (I'm not normally some competition level shooter but I can hold my own with my other guns). It also gave me my first slide wound when shooting a gun ever. Guess I was trying too hard to squeeze all my fingers on and held it too high, but on the first shot out of one magazine I gt that tell-tale cut at the base of my thumb from the slide coming back. Wasn't bad (barely broke the skin), but having shot several thousand rounds out of several dozen different handguns, it's the first gun that's ever bitten me :).

Might I suggest a finger extension for your mag? It made a world of difference in mine.

I've got them, but they were likely at fault here :). Both the Pearce version and the Ruger version that came with the gun. I can grip the gun ok with no extension if I resolve to let the pinky finger hang off the bottom. The Ruger version was useless to me. I still had a pinky hanging off like with the non-extended grip. The the longer Pearce extension I can get the pinky on there, but it's a tight squeeze. I was actually shooting with the Pearce extension when I got the slide cut. I kinda wish there was an extended magazine that sat flush the the whole bottom grip and added some significant length to the grip (1.5" - 1.75").

Just one thing to add: Mine's been great, but I do get stovepipes if I don't hold it firmly. Holding it two handed, never a problem; one-handed (especially left hand) not so great. I've never had a stovepipe with any other pistol.

My LCP was perfect in every way, never a Hiccup.

It just beat the hell out of my trigger finger!... i sold that thing, i'll get something else later, but that trigger would always just SLAP back. Enough to where it did actually ruin some shooting day's early. I then always shot it last before i left to make sure everything was still OK.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that.

I've got 300+ through mine of various makes. .380 has been hard for me to find, so I take what I can. But, I haven't had any problems.

Mine was terrible (worst start of any gun I have ever owned) until I put about 200 rds through it. Now at about 500 rds it is all good and no more failures. I would have 3-4 faliures per mag during break-in.
YMMV

+1 on that. The difference is night and day, especially during rapid fire. I have two mags with the ruger extensions. They at least allow for 2 whole fingers to grip the gun securely.

My buddy's LCP had repeated stovepipes and failures to feed with PMC ammo. I witnessed it with my own eyes.

After a few stovepipes, we put in some of my 20-year-old Federal American Eagle white box (anybody remember those?) and had no problems. We began alternating mags of my ammo and his new PMC ammo from two boxes. No problems with the old Federal stuff. Multiple issues with the new PMC.

I like the gun a lot. Great shooter, accurate. I wouldn't run any more PMC through it if it were mine.

I'm exactly where you were - trying to decide between the LCP and the TCP.
I was about to go with the TCP because it has some advantages - locking slide after the last shot, two mags , stainless slide and a little cheaper. Then I read some bad things about Taurus customer service. So, I was leaning towards the LCP. Now I read about your problem. Back to square one.

Just kidding, but now you know what it's like to be a fan of Glock.

The difference is: you deserve it; we don't! :neener: You don't see Ruger (or Taurus guys, for that matter) fans forever poking their noses into unrelated threads, just looking for some perceived slight directed at their pet brand to whine about. As for Glock fanboys? Well, here you are, nosing around in a Ruger thread; unable to resist dragging a Glock issue into the discussion...

seriously, PMC is one of the better .380 ammo's.

all of the .380 seem to have guns here and there that need work to get them up to snuff.

dont buy the hype! only guns i bought new that didnt have to go back to the factory are glocks.

The should have not strayed so far away from the design they stole from Kel-Tec.

The rule of thumb for buying a good gun it to buy the one everybody else is trying to copy.

Glock
Kel-Tec
Walthers (European Only)
Colt
Remington
Mossberg

I don't believe that the KelTec P3AT made in Cocoa, Fl. was an original design.. Best I remember it was an "improved" something else..

Could be wrong, but I believe I read that someplace back when I had a KT P32 and a KT P11

I doubt there are very many "original" firearm designs that haven't been copied, cloned, improved, or somehow changed by some other firearms manufacturer at a later date.

No offense, just sayin'... :scrutiny:

Best Wishes,

Jesse

That's exactly right. All one has to do is to look at the glut of pretenders to the throne of the Colt SA and the Colt 1911 to realize most designs feed on each other. There's certainly nothing new in terms of design or concept with the Kel Tec pistol. If there were, wouldn't you expect to see some Kel Tec patents?
