This video scares me. The power of the 22LR.

too bad he didnt miss and give the officer a chance to retrieve the 5.56 from the trunk. that'd have been a happier ending.

The shot was from 400 feet not 400 yards. I'm not that great a shot, but 135 yards is not all that far.
135 yards is enough on a 22 bullet that 2-3 plastic plates from a 55 gallon chemical drum can be used as body armor.

In no disrespect to the officer or his family that is a horrible thing.

But if the gangster was going to commit pre meditated murder why use a .22? yes I know it can kill. I may or may not have seen a doe killed by one. but still it goes to show that these gangsters are just kids that haven't got a clue whats going on (obliviously if the dumb arses are killing law officers) but yet there actions with a firearm reflect poorly upon the rest of Americas gun owners.

I hope the kid gets the chair

Kids use what they can get their hands on. If it's a choice between a jennings .32 pistol, a high-point 9mm pistol, or a ruger 10/22 carbine, I'd choose the carbine too.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not anti-LEO. I come from a LEO family.

It's going to sound like a callous thing to say, but this kid shouldn't be in jail. He should be in the Marine Sniper Training School. Put his skills to work.

Give him a 30 year sentence as a Marine sniper, with all of his pay going to the officer's family in punishment for his crimes. He'll get food and shelter as a Marine and the country will get some use out of him. He has a talent that could be a very big use to the military.

Too many people in prisons. Time to think outside the box.

Yep. Excellent. Train him to make 1000 yard and longer shots. I can't see anything wrong with that. Nevermind that we've got problems with gang members enlisting and returning home once their commitment ends to bring their skills back to the hood. Let's send a murderer to school to teach him to be even more effective.

Most of the members here that practice with rifles a little bit could probably make that hit. Even the inexperienced ones, especially if they've had a bit of training, like an Appleseed event. But they don't murder people...

It is unfortunate that this criminal was able to his target at that range but it was mostly luck. The diagram of point of aim/point of impact is way off. I have probably shot as many if not more 22 long rifle cartridges as anyone on this sight. While it has been a while since I shot silhouette I believe that there was a 6 inch drop from 40 yards to 100 yards. Even if the shooter had zeroed at 300 yards, which I am sure he did not, the drop from 300 to 400 would be far more than 12" which is the approximate difference from head to heart shot. The "sniper rifle" was a 10/22 carbine, not exactly known for its oustanding accuracy. My guess is that since we know he fired several shots, the barrel just kept climbing as he pulled the trigger. The one that got him was probaly aimed well over his head by several feet.
The shooter was 400 feet away not 400 yards. I have shot enough with a 22 just like the one pictured to know that 400 feet is not a hard shot. He put the crosshairs on his head and hit him in the chest or back and pierced his heart.

I know for a fact that a 22lr will penetrate a 1X4 plank of pine wood from 200 yds. That is 600 feet and the young officer was shot from 400 feet. He never had a chance. God Bless his soul.

Okay, I nominate you to be his bunkmate and spotter.

This shouldn't scare you more; just educate you if you previously had dismissed the 22LR round as any real threat. There are plenty of thugs out there with far more capable weapons than the "lowly" 22LR. Imagine what someone who practiced with theirs as much as this guy must have with the Ruger could do. Incidentally, us law-abidings are not the only ones who have realized the economy of 22LR practice.

That is a nice scope. Better than the one on mine.

For those lamenting the time gaps between cop-killings and justice, do some reading on www.odmp.org, a site dedicated to the memory of those who have given all in the line of duty. As recently as WW-II, the time from crime to execution (in those cases in which execution was imposed and carried out) is often well under two years, and well under one year just a decade earlier.

Lock him up and throw away the key. That kid deserves everything and more he is going to get.

I would not really call spraying bullets from a scoped .22 as skills, but I guess we each have our own standards. And yes, the kid should hang, not be in the military. If he will kill police officers, he will kill American soldiers as well.

We could trust him to represent American values and morals and to honorably serve the American people?

He's scum.

Hang the kid high and let him swing. As for the Lowly 22 LR; It once again has proven it can get the job done regardless of what Ballastic Charts and Gun Writers say.

Prayers for the LEO's Family what a sucky way to go.

You don't seem to know anything about the Marine family. I know you meant well, but you really didn't think that one through. No offense.

Have a great weekend.

Might just be the first gangbanger who ever aimed. That is a bad development.

Lot's of gangbangers are returning to the 'hood after leaving (and being trained by) the military.
