Modern Bolt Action 7.62x39?

.... I am then going to have to disagree with myself again; I have seen diameters measured before on american made, with 308..309 diameters.
Sorry you don't like that...
I have also seen diameters on american made bbls, with smaller diameters than on some, MOST, euro/russian/asian made rifles/bbls.
So says Bruce Hornsby.
Maybe things now are more standardized than they were, say 5 years ago, 10 , 15 30 , 50, etc. but most peeps buying euro rifles, well, they have a few years on them. especially the aks. and for mass produced ammo, from euro/russian/asian sights, I would guess they have not changed their diameters in the bullet making process, since they first got their tooling and especially since they also started making the rifles at the same time, and the rifles and the tooling that are still over there, are proly the same age!
So therefore, unless we are talking about new made ammo, that comes from either new companies that are modern' over there' , or is made in America, made for new made american rifles, and I will be generous and include new made eurorifles of 5 years old or less, I am gonna have to disagree with you.
My personal feelings on this, so therefore you cannot prove to me otherwise-- we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

By the way, that picture above, says Hornady ammo, which is an american company.
So if you are right Krochus, how come it sasy 310 diameter bullets?
I would reply but I can in now way make any sense of this post nor can I really figure out what it refers to?

HERE ARE THE FACTS!

FACT the only .308" bored x39 rifle are PRE1993 ruger mini's

FACT the ruger m77 in x39 uses a .311" bore

MYTH american made 7.62x39 ammo with .308 bullets

Myth production 7.62x39 rifle's with .308" bores exist other than the aforementioned pre 93 mini's
Now Rangerruck it's your turn to post some facts showing otherwise or admit you're WRONG and everything you've ever posted on this subject is misinformation.

thanks to the uber fast CS at federal I have a resonse to the following question I just sent out half an hr ago. These guys deserve a big thumbsup

Subject: Federal Premium - Ask the Expert Form

Hello I'm writing with regards to a technical question about your
7.62x39mm loadings.

PN# 76239B and A76239A

What diameter are the bullets you use in your loads?

Thanks for your response Ronnie

Subject: RE: Federal Premium - Ask the Expert Form

.310 is the diameter of our 7.62x39 bullets.

Thank you

Krochus, you're missing the point.

Never let facts get in the way of a good (or not-so-good) argument. :D

Since this thread has diverged rather thoroughly from the direction of the OP's question I guess I might as well ask a semi related question. Does any one know whether a high scope mount will work for the Remington 799 or is an extra high scope mount required, or does it depend on the scope? The scope will be 40 mm or under.

Also, OP, have you decided on a rifle?

Came back from the range with my CDNN Remington 799 in 7.62x39. 2 consective 5 shots groups with 2 different ammo. I believe Wolf MC is .310 and Wolf FMJ is .308. Does not seem matter much on the accuracy. Does change point of impact significantly. Pretty happy with it.

P.S. The 2nd group is actually 6 shots with one replacement round for the flyer which is my fault. The 5 "good' shots touching and overlap each other.

Bought one a few years ago and put a Weaver 4x on it. Shoots 1 MOA or better all day long with .311 bullets using Lapua, Win or Rem brass. Fine quality and craftmanship and accurate 'as is.' It does not shoot as well with Hornady .310 or smaller diam. bullets. Mine likes H4198 and IMR 4227. It also shot some VERY old AA1680 handloads with good accuracy.

And it's fun to shoot.

Looked seriously at the imported Remingtons but already had the CZ. The 799's look like nice rifles - good to know they shoot well.
