Please post pictures or comments about your favorite 20" full size ar, including all the things you've done to it or accessories you've added :D

For my purposes a 20" ar is pure perfection.

The gun on the left is a white oak uppered .30hrt with a jard trigger, an ace stock that now wears a leupold 2x7x33 ballistic plex scope.

The rifle on the right is a milsurp colt 603 uppered a1 retro

both rifles shoot like a house afire

I dont currently own a 20 inch rifle. But it will be my next AR. Im gonna set up a DMR rifle similar to what I used in the Army. My unit had mostly M16A4s so I trained MOUT with a full size rifle and can work it well.

Krochus how is the balance on that 20" heavy barreled rifle with the Ace stock? I'm thinking of adding a Ace ARFX Buttstock to a 20" A2 build I'm contemplating building in the near future.

My M16A4 clone:

-LMT lower
-CMMG govt spec upper
-KAC M5 RAS
-TA31RCO-A4

I have since changed out the mount back to the stock TA51 so it would be correct milspec as well.

I like my 20", also. The carbine and rifle versions of the AR are different weapons based on the same platform. Each has its merits, and I don't find that either one replaces the other. However, a 16" mid-length does do a decent job of pretending to be both as needed.:)

My favorite: A lightweight M16A1 clone, alongside its nemesis - the dreaded AKM.
I built this rifle on a DPMS lower, DPMS internals, with an RRA NM trigger and RRA bolt. The 1/12 barrel and upper are NOS USGI Colt M16A1 parts. The furniture (no cleaning kit compartment) and flash suppressor are NOS USGI M16 parts. All the metal parts were Gunkoted semi-flat gray/black to match. It has a USGI M14 sling.

This one, an M16A2 clone, is fun too, but I still prefer the lighter "A1"
I built this rifle on an Eagle Arms lower, DPMS internals. The 1/7 twist Govt Profile barrel (light under the handguads) and upper are BCM. The furniture, bolt and NM trigger are RRA. It has a USGI M14 sling.

I have a stripped RRA lower in my basement waiting to be joined with the parts (yet to be bought) of a 20" varmint type setup. I'm still deciding on the particulars. :) Love the pics!

I love the A4 clones. I just can't see myself spending that kind of money for the ACOG. LOL. I'm building a bare-bones M4 clone first, then building a bare-bones 20" rifle.

The carry handle is just as milspec as the ACOG... they are not on every rifle and therefore you don't really need one for a correct clone.

My other milspec clone is MK18 build, and it is wearing the LMT rear sight, but not the Aimpoint at the moment.

I HAVE NOT had good luck with putting Carbine length buffer tubes lowers on 20" barreled uppers tho. I now have full length buffer tubes on all the 20" uppers and everything is happy.

Forgive the garbage pictures; my good camera is in storage with my household goods:

Bushmaster XM15-E2S, ARMS flip-up rear sight and free float rail, LRI front sight, Smith brake, Gas Buster charging handle. Very accurate rifle. It needs a scope, but I've only been shooting at 100 yds lately, and the irons do plenty good at that distance.

My next AR is going to be an CMP compliant 20" match rifle. I have been dying to try some prone shooting with an AR. I was thinking of an RRA NM rifle but I think I can build it/have it built for cheaper and get a better barrel/chamber. I really like the 20" AR and wish I could have found one available when I bought my last carbine.

This is my Service Rifle Match gun, built on a Eagle Arms receiver. It's kind of a sleeper in that it has a 2-stage RRA trigger, free-float tube under the hand guard, 1/8 SS Krieger barrel, NM sights and butt-stock weight.

M16A1 ... kind-of-a-clone
I deviated in that it's built on a A2type preban BOHICA M-16-SA receiver, which one of these days I may have shaved to simulate the slab-side (but I'm not in too big a hurry to do it) ... it also has a 1in9 heavy barrel on it.

Well, I don't have a picture at the moment, but I DO have an NM rifle similar to SkyDriver's. Mine is all stock Armalite, save the 1:7" twist Wilson barrel that was chambered by White Oak.

What I don't understand is why the light-profile is so rare on the 20" platform. It seems to me to be a waste to have a semi-auto .223 that weighs 8.5-lbs bare! Used to get to work with an SP-1 like 1KPerDay's, which was a very nice rifle. Accurate and lightweight, I doubt it went over 6.5-lbs loaded.

Dang, now I want to get a lightweight A4-uppered 20" AR. Thanks guys! :scrutiny:
