During my last range trip I began having multiple fte issues with my P-01. It pretty much hangs up on every other round or so. I 've done some reading and found that weak extractor springs from the factory can be an issue. I've ordered new Wolff springs and I'm ready to try this fix but I've got a couple of questions.

1) How much should I reasonably expect to pay for a gunsmith to swap the springs.
2) Is this something that I can do myself with zero gunsmithing experience.
3) What the hell?? This pistol only has maybe 600-750 rounds (not sure) through it and its not worth much more than a paperweight right now. I bought the P-01 based on the expectation I was getting one of the best designed, reliable compact pistols on the market. I've had zero issues with my stainless 75b and I wanted the P-01 to be a trusted edc. My confidence in this piece has been shaken but I love its accuracy and the ergos are ideal for me. Can I expect the extractor spring swap to make this a reliable pistol again?

Yes, the extractor spring should work.

I know it is frustrating to have an unreliable gun. But, in reality, all guns can be unreliable. Glock is still fix issues for LEA across the country and their design is touted as the most maintenance free, durable design in the world.

My point is, it happens to all makers and all guns sooner or later.

Resurrecting my own post....

Okay, so I swapped the extractor spring for the Wolff and....now I'm getting multiple failures to feed. Its like the round makes it nearly halfway into the chamber and jams. What in the world??!! Should I call it a POS and get rid of it?

Buy a Glock, preferably in the 9mm variety. :neener:

If it doesn't work flawlessly out of the box, I'll give you $10. :D

I was so close to trading it for a G19 RTF at the range today. That option is still on the table but I don't want to screw the gun shop either.

Talk to CZ - they have decent CS (and that from a guy who had an issue with them years ago). They can see you've tried to work with it. Normally, the P01 is a HECK of a reliable gun. The extractor itself could be all wrong.

Trade it for the G19, your confidence in it is destroyed...

On the other hand, I've heard they are supposed to be fairly reliable pistolas...

Call 1-800-955-4486, press for gunsmith, CZ will take care of you. If you must trade it for a G-rock, make sure it's not a Gen 4, mucho troubles with them, I hear.

I agree!.........If the pistol only has 600-750 rounds through it, it's apparently new and should still have a warranty. Why even mess around with a gun that's barely shot in......Send it back to CZ, they'll make it right.

It can happen to any manufacturer......Hell my buddy had to send his brand new stainless Government Model back to Colt for FTE ....... Since getting it back from Colt it has been flawless.

*#%* happens........

yeah, seriously.

Besides, unloading guns that dont work on people by selling it to them is positivly un-christian :)

Thats just spreading the hurt around the entire gun community.

I wouldn't trade it without informing the shop of the issues you're having. A reputable shop will take the trade and send it to the factory for repair before reselling it. On the other hand you can try sending it to CZUSA to have them repair it. It could be something as simple as the extractor spring or it could be something more complicated that requires expert smithing.

CZ customer service rocks, they will work hard to make you happy. Call them and go a week or two w/o your side arm.

I have the feeding issues you describe when the gun is exceptionally dirty. Not sure if you've cleaned it in your 600+ rounds.

No FTE's on mine, and it's had at least 2000 rounds through it.

I hope CZ-USA can get back on track with the P-01.

Just don't buy a Glock like Hudguru says in every CZ post he can.

Look at all the GEN 4 issued they are having in 9mm versions.

No gun is perfect, despite what Glock marketing says.

True, not every firearm is perfect but the Glock Gen 4 issues are overstated. There are plenty of owners that haven't had a single issue with them just like there are plenty of CZ owners that have had nothing but perfect service from their pistols.

I have a P-01 and have never had any issues with it let alone the ones you are experiencing. Sounds like one slipped through the cracks. Contact CZ they will take care of it.

I'm pretty religious about cleaning my guns. I clean them thoroughly after every range outing. I got it real nice and shiny after replacing the extractor spring so no this can't be it. I'm leaning towards an issue with the extractor itself.

I called CZ-USA today, couldn't get through and had to leave a message at 1:30 pm ET. No response from them today. I'll call them on my lunch again tomorrow if no response. What info will I need to have for them when they call? Will they need serial number and purchase date?

Love my P-01 and I just want it back right again!

Mike will put you right. Tell 'em where you got it and when. Did you send in the warrantee card when you bought it? If not, I would hazard a really strong guess you'll get taken care of. Please let us know how it goes!

Very strange to see this with the P-01.

There could be some debris behind or around the spring/extractor.

I had the same issue with a SP-01. I tried many fixes including ordering a extra power extractor spring. The issue was resolved by talking with CZ-USA and getting a new extractor and spring sent out. You will need a 2mm punch to change it. The extra power spring from wolf was too strong and would cause the feed issues you described for me as well. I suspect that the original spring was weak and the original extractor on my gun was out of spec. I have since fired 2000 rounds with no issues.

Talk with a CZ-USA gunsmith and they should get the parts sent out to you.

I had to email the gunsmith my serial number to get the parts sent out, so have access to your serial number when you call.

Got through immediately today to Scott. I told Scott I had changed the spring out for a Wolff and he immediately suggested it could be the extractor. He's sending me an extractor but after reading your post I hope he sends me a spring as well. It was refreshing get such an easy to deal with customer representative. He didn't hesitate one second to get me what I needed to hopefully be up and running again.

Kudos to Scott and CZ-USA!!

thought I'd once again resurrect this post to give you an update.

As I said in the last post last year, CZ did send me the new extractor. Well, believe or not, I never got around to replacing the old one until today! I have, over the last year, carried my PF9 and SR9 while the P-01 sat in the closet.

Well....after replacing the extractor with the new CZ one I continue to have issues. Whats happening is when I try to load the gun by slingshotting or releasing the slide stop, the round feeds about half way into chamber and stops. Seems to me that the Wolff extractor spring is just too stiff. Any opinions?

I'm really ready to get rid of this pistol and maybe start over with another P-01 or maybe even a G19. I've had the pistol 3 or 4 years so I'm assuming I'll have to pay CZ to fix it. Any idea of the cost that might be involved with that?

ecureed, I have a P01 which has been reliable with anything I've put through it. The only time I had hiccups with it was when I let the magazines get filthy. From what you last described are you having failures to feed? Have you tried a variety of ammo? Maybe you need to polish the feed ramp? Thoroughly clean the chamber? I traded my G19 for the P01 years ago, and have not regretted it.

I recently took my P01 to the range, it never fails to impress with its accuracy.

Good luck with yours...
