Looking to find a deal out there on a safe in the 36+ capacity size range.
If anyone knows of any sites with specials or deals, point the way!

Scratch and dent, serious sale, ugly paint job discount. Trying to stay around $1200 delivered and get as much safe as I can for the money.
Seriously considering a couple they have at Dick's locally, but they deliver them off the web sans tax, which is a pretty decent savings. Those are "36" gun safes and should meet my needs.

I think you can find what you're looking for near or at your budget.

What does Dick's have that you're looking at? Most of the safes they have around here are the Stack On type which have a lot of shortcomings for the price.

Do you have a Bass Pro, Cabela's, Costco, Sam's, or any other similar place nearby?

There's actually one at Costco I'm eyeing, too. A little smaller than I want to go, though.

The one's at Dick's were sentry (actually think I looked at a 24 gun safe on the showroom floor there) and stack on...:scrutiny:

Also, we're going to hit a couple of the local gun shops this weekend and see if they have anything decent to be had.
Gander mountain is 45 minutes away and BPS is 1 hour 15.

I would stay away from anything that does not use a UL rated lock. In my opinion, not only are non rated locks less secure, but they also are less reliable. Many non rated electronic locks use simple solenoid designs that are easily bypassed or bounced open. Many of the Sentry and Stack On products use non rated locks.

Your link didn't work for me, but I assume you're looking at this safe at Costco:

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Produc...=2&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1

It's not a bad safe, uses UL rated locks, and comes from a decent company that stands behind their products.

Bass Pro sells a number of safes under their Red Head label. They use two manufacturers to supply these safes, one is Granite, and the other is Pro Steel (builds Browning safes). They should sell some of the Pro Steels in your price range, and they aren't bad safes. The Granites have been going down hill in terms of quality.

Most of the safes you'll find in that price range are Chinese. Just make sure you're looking at a well built Chinese safe.

I can sell you a Cannon that is UL listed (safe and lock), measures 60 x 40 x 26, 1200 degree/30 minute fire, and sets up for either 18 or 36 guns for $995.00.

Unlike much of what you'll find at Bass Pro, these are made in the USA. Most, if not all, of their "Redhead" private label safes are Chinese imports. Granite stopped building them some time ago.

Can you post a link to which Cannon safe you are describing for $995.00?
Thanks

Nope, this one is one of many safes they build on a private label basis which will not show up on their website or info. As an example, I have another 60 x 40 x 24 Cannon with a 1200 degree / 1 hour fire rating which shares the same specs as their "Cannon" Series. It won't show up on their site either as it's one they built for a mass merchant who couldn't pay their bills. With that, they stopped an en route shipment, and we ended up with a dozen of them and are selling them for $1,245.00

I have two of them left, both are gloss burgundy and have an S&G digital electronic lock and five spoke handle.

Well, I just found out that I screwed the pooch on my taxes to the tune of several thousand dollars. I still need a safe, but I'm going to be scouring craigslist for one or two smaller safes.

gunsafes.com includes shipping in their prices and patriot gun safes sell some scratch and dent safes for a decent discount and includes shipping

There is no such thing as "free" shipping. I'll be happy to mark up my sales price as to include "free shipping" as that's all these folks are doing.

As for Patriot, as in the factory-direct manufacturer in CA... maybe I'd better stop right there. Next thing you know we'll be talking about Sportsman Steel.

Okay I think I'm going to grab the bighorn from Costco. Shipping is included in the sale price, only add on at checkout is tax. The IRS is going to have to take a flying leap, I can't continue keeping my guns under the bed.

Safeguy, can you send me a message with the specs and a shipped cost to Tampa, FL for the $795 Cannon safe, please?

Maybe so, but when they can do that and still be cheaper.....who cares??

I think you'd better do some more shopping if you think their prices with freight are the best you can do. I just took a quick glance at their prices on Cannon which included "free shipping", and they were WAY high.

That's normally the case with these type outfits as obviously they have to figure on a worst case scenario to come up with a freight number to add to their selling price. I can promise you it doesn't cost the same to ship a safe 100 miles as it does 1,000.

Figured I'd just post it here since it's no secret.

Delivery to a private residence (used zip 33601) would run $221.28 with liftgate service. It would be $40 less if it were delivered to a business or if you met the driver at a commercial location/parking lot to offload onto a pick-up or trailer. That would also include liftgate service. I can check another option for carriers which could be a bit cheaper, so that's a worst case scenario. Might have other freight saving options if you're not in a hurry. I get to the Tampa area on a fairly regular basis.

Specs are 60 x 30 x 26, UL RSC Rating, UL listed LP electronic lock, 12GA body, 1" composite door (fireboard with 12GA covering), 525 lbs., matte black with three spoke chrome handle. Modular interior allows either 12 or 24 guns with the 12 gun configuration providing three half shelves. Pre-wired with two outlets for dehumidifier and light. In stock here with standard 2 business day delivery.

My statement was a general statement, not specific to the seller you are speaking about. I buy all kinds of things online, and get them with free shipping, and no sales tax. I can't find better deals than this locally, and I don't have to leave my home.

I don't care how they are manipulating the numbers......it's still saving me money. When I bought my AMSEC gun safe, it was shipped to my door for hundreds less than I could find it anywhere else. I asked how he was able to do this because I figured there was a catch. He refused to tell me the details of his business secrets, and I was ok with that. His business reviewed well so I went for it. Not a single problem with the transaction. The only thing I felt bad about is that I didn't buy from a1abdj after all the info he provides. But, in a horrible economy, every dollar counts.

I would be curious to see how your prices compare to his. By the way, on your web site you say "We are prohibited by our manufacturers from listing prices on the internet". Why do other sellers have pricing on the same brands you carry?

First, I'll be happy to provide pricing on any safe I sell. Beyond that, there is no secret to selling safes for less than the next guy. It's called buying in volume while taking advantage of all the manufacturer's discounts while being able to take advantage of that volume with lower mark-ups. Again, there is no such thing as free freight. Free freight would involve a carrier literally picking up a product from a supplier and delivering it to their customer for free. Sorry, that just doesn't happen.

Right, and I agree with you. All I'm saying is when the total price with free shipping is less than other peoples prices that doesn't include shipping....or does.....I'm buying.

If they want to put a twist on words, I could care less. All I care about is bottom price.
