Nice rifle. I don't have a 264 Winmag, but if I did, I would certainly try the Win Supreme 780 powder.
The www.hodgdon.com site shows that powder capable of exceptional ballistics with the 129gr Hornady SP.
Good shooting.

I see you like Rugers. I like them too. I have three, but none in .264 WM. I'm sure it's a fine cartridge. Good luck with it.

Here are my other three. From the top; .338 WM, .300 WM, 7mm RM

I'm looking for an M77 MkII All Weather in .350 Rem Mag also.

My eyes, my eyes! Looking at ONE boat paddle results in sheer agony, but three, man? THREE? :p

Hope it was a lot of cash, since all you got is a cartridge.

Lordy!!! I have to agree with Dr. Tad there... I threw up a little...
I sure hope they are as functional as they are... shall we say homely?
By the way, what is a 330 wm?

The old boat paddles are ugly, but they are fairly comfortable to shoot and there's not much you couldn't do to them to make them fail. Plus if your ever up a creek without a paddle, well there ya go :)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - I like the way they look - in fact I like just about everything Ruger makes. That is a fine collection of guns and the .350 mag will fit right on top of the collection unless you get a .375 H&H.

I'm sure guys will be happy to know, the .264 has a boat paddle on it now. Also, I added a M77 MkII Target in 22-250.

jmortimer, the "top" of my collection, I hope to be a M77 MkII Magnum in .458 Lott. But in between, I plan to find a tang safety .458 Win Mag. After I snag that .350 though. My wife hates my obsession with Ruger now...lol

Also, to some that asked, no it wasn't a lot of cash. I practically gave a brand new Sendero SF-II 300 RUM away. But I got something I wanted for a really long time.

If you were happy with the deal and the other party was too then it was not a bad deal for anyone. I personaly like the ruger m77 mark II, but IM not sold on the boat paddle look yet. congrats on the new 264

George, I'm not sure if I just couldnt get used to the Remington, or if I missed headspacing on the belt. The Sendero was a sexy beast, but it just did not ever feel right to me. Like my Rugers were accusing me of cheating.

Anyone have any experience with heavy bullet 264 loads I.e 160grs? I've been thinking about a 6.5 but am more intriged by the old school heavy for caliber round nose loAds. Have been considered a 6.5x55 (ruled out 260rem because it can't handle the oak). But if the 264 can handle the heavywieghts like a 6.5x55 but also work up some burners with lighter bullets I might go for it. Gun is my dream Dakota model 10 so I can get a 25" barrel and be at a decent length thanks to the shorter action

I had a load on my old PC for a 120gr HPBT that chono'd at 3614 FPS like a laser out of my dad's pre-64 model 70. If I can find the data I'll get that to you. I think I was using H870.

I've done a lot of work with the .264 the past two years, but I'll just post my favorites. However, my gun has a custom chamber, 27.5" barrel and long throat. I will post my powder charges as those are more than likely safe in a factory chamber, but be CAREFUL! You likely won't come within 100 fps of my velocities though, but maybe you will.
100 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip: 71.5 grains H4831SC = 3725 fps, super accurate, sub 1/3 MOA in my gun. Hell on antelope.
120 grain Barnes TTSX: 67.5 grains Win 780= 3500 fps, not that accurate, but I've taken elk with this load.
140 grain Partitions: 63 grains (old IMR lists 65 as max) 7828: 3200 fps, 1/2 MOA, taken two elk and a deer with this load.
140 grain Speers: 75 grains US869, 1/2 MOA, 3175 fps

I've not got the .264, but almost; mines a .257wbymag.

I've found out why Wby still loads the 117gr RN in this cartridge. Out to ~300yds, it's a superb game killing bullet. It just dosen't know it's not supposed to shoot flat, so refuses to not do so. It's as flat shooting as you need and the bullet's terminal ballists are superlative, 3,000fps+ impact not withstanding, and considering it was designed for the .25-35 @ 2,200fps.......

BTW; it also performs exemplary from my .257Robt. at ~3,000fps over xx.xgr of IMR4831 (over listed max for non-+P Roberts loads; but is exactly max for the .25wssm).

So, I think that for elk, ect inside 300yds that the 154 and 160gr RN bullets will be absolute knock-outs. I believe IIRC that 10+ or so years ago, Finn Aagard wrote an article addressing such.

(My boat anchors have laminated wood, just like the paddles in my boats....)
I can't get much for velocity with H870, but RL25 and Retumbo give over 3,700fps with a 100gr and approach 3,400fps with a 115-120gr, so would be my starting attempts with a .264.

wow~!~~~ a 140 grain bullet going 3200 fps; that is simply mind altering!!!
There must be no game that bullet can't penetrate...

Im at 68gr of Retumbo with a 129gr bullet in my .264 WM and not even showing pressure signs yet. Im 0.5gr over the listed max.

I will chrono this weekend. Ive been reunning pressure ladders. So far, my primers are still round and lifting the bolt with my pinky. My goal though, is 3200 fps, with the 129, from a 24" barrel.

I couldn't find the old data, but if I remember correctly, it was 68.5 or 68.6 grains of H870 that kicked like a mule and got the attention of everyone on the line. It split the necks on a couple old cases, but the new cases showed no signs of problems.

3200 should be more than doable with a 24" barrel and 129/130 grains. I found N165 and 780 to be capable of exceeding that pretty easily.

I hope I can attain 3200 with good accuracy. Should be a good flat deer killer.

Be careful not to drive those too fast if you are likely to encounter any short range shots. I was able to blow up the 140 grain SSTs (a little more explosive than the standard 140 soft point interlock) at 3200.
