I can personally attest that there are many "fine" guns that can be had for $350 or less.

For example:
Remington 31 field gun
Winchester Model 12
Iver Johnson Special trap
Henry 22 lever action
High Standard Flite King
Ithaca Model 37
(My friend got a Colt 38 revolver from about 50 years ago)

What other great guns are available in this price range?

you can get a sks for that much, i dont know if you want to put it in the great category but its pretty reliable.

lets not forget the fine choices in .22 that can be had. The utility of a .22 including everything from plinking to hunting to competition makes them an awesome value. I also agree on the Win Model 12's. You can find those anywhere for what seems like dirt cheap. My dad has one and I love it.

Swiss K31 has to be at the top of that list. As far as quality of craftsmanship, accuracy, quality of components for the dollar there can't be many that would rank higher.

I;ve been able to pick up a few guns for under $350 including:

Ruger GP100
S&W Model 37 Flat Latch
Winchester Super X2
Remington Wingmaster
Henry 22 Lever
Winchester 94 44 mag

Come to think of it, other than a new LCR and CZ 75B, most of my guns were purchased used and cost less than $350.

If we're talking new guns, I have bought these recently under $350...

Marlin XL7 .270
Savage Mark II BWTV .22LR
Remington 700 BDL 7mm Rem Mag (sale price)

H&R Topper (nearly every model is under $250; Deluxe Classics are the nicest)
H&R Handi-Rifle
Savage Mk I/Mk II (a lot of models are under $300; frightening accuracy)

I've found many for under $350. One key is buying used, not new.

CZ 452
Speed Six (though I got lucky on that one)
Security Sixes
Model 10 S&W's
Mossberg 500
Finnish Mosins
lots of others

Tricked Out Stainless Ruger Mini-14 .223 for $350
Rossi stainless model 88, 2" .5-shot .38 Special $208

Mosins are hit or miss, but for 350 you can get a nice Finnish Mosin. Unissued Finns from the 50's and 60's run about 400 and are great rifles.
A little over the price range, but trust me , some great Finns can be had for far less than that.
K 31's are also great if you don't mind shopping around for a decent price. Mine looks like it was used to drive railroad spikes but shoots like a dream.
Got my Yugo M48BO mauser for a little over $200,great rifle.
If you don't mind picking through piles of Lee-Enfield N0. 4's to find one with a good bore they can be had for well under 350 easy.
Oh and let's not forget Swedish M96 Mausers. A great round (6.5x55) and a very accurate rifle. The local Cabela's has them for under 300.
Looks like my Mil Surp origins are showing.
You can find plenty of great used guns for that price.
As far as new the list gets much smaller. CZ has an entry level .22 for under 350 and if their other bolt action .22s are any gauge it should be a fine rifle.

I am not rich, so a fine gun is one I would trust to be reliable, reasonably accurate, and strong. I can't readily afford AAA Grade figured walnut stocks, chintzy engraving, night sights, tactical lights, lasers, shoulder things that go up, expensive magazines, .1 MOA accuracy, polyunobtanium disulfide materials with 24k gold finishes impregnated with OxyClean, 24-50x2000 scopes with a resolution high enough to read the DNA of a deer from the other side of the country, and/or vertical foregrips. Holster wear, dinged and scratched stocks, minor external rust flecks, and/or missing roll pins are par for the course. Hell, that's half the fun anyway! :p

<$350, personal experience:

Hi-Point pistols and carbine
Kel-Tec P series
Bersa .380
Several surplus pistols (Makarovs, P-64s, CZ-52s, etc.)
Mosins, SKSs (which aren't under $350 anymore)
Bubba'd surplus rifles (if the barrel hasn't been hacksawed unsafely)
Heritage Arms revolvers (though they're usually priced at about the $350 mark)
Used Winchester 1300s

I paid $350 after $50 rebate for my S&W M&P .40 with 4 magazines when they were running the sale in April, 2008.
