And Springfield 1911s are made by Imbel in Brazil. (Well some models are fitted, assembled and finished in the U. S. using frames and slides made in Brazil.)

Springfield Armory does not really make any guns. They just stamp their name on guns they import form other countries. They do assemble some of them here from parts brought in from all over to claim made in USA.
Not saying that is a bad thing. They sell some very good guns.

Springfield Armory Inc. is an importer and custom shop. The XD is really an HS2000 made by HS Produkt in Karlovac, Croatia.

If you're thinking of the original Springfield Armory (located in Springfield, MA) that designed and manufactured guns for the US military for nearly two centuries, the modern company of that name has absolutely nothing to do with it, aside from being renamed after it. I'm not trying to bash them as they are a quality importer and shop, and offer fine products, but obviously they want you to think that you're buying from the real Springfield Armory, which closed in 1968. I just love their motto "The First Name in American Firearms" because it's so true regarding the name but says nothing about the actual company or where the firearms are really manufactured--how clever.
Ironically, Smith & Wesson happens to be located in...wait for it...Springfield, MA.

If I buy foreign guns, I like to buy them knowing full well that they are indeed foreign guns. Thats just... sneaky.
So basically, they are just like EAA, or any other importer. Redonkulous.
So basically, if you want a resonably priced, american made pistol, its boiling down the Smith and Wesson. In their 1911s or the M&P.
Thats just sad.

XD's are nothing more than rebranded HS2000's that failed in the american market years ago. at that time they were $250, but now that springfield armory imports them and stamps their name on them, they cost over twice as much....
Smith, Colt, Ruger, and Kimber also build guns here. Even Glock and Beretta are making their guns here now. Kahr pistols are American made I think as well. The new FN pistols are made in South Carolina and are the handgun I am most interested in. Problem is I already have more guns than I can justify.
I thought everyone knew SA guns were imported, The XD does not appeal to me but is a good gun regardless of where it is made. Some of their high end 1911's are as good as you can get in a factory pistol. Others are just so so.

I have an xd9 sc and it is a fine gun. Well made, accurate, and absolutely trouble free through the first 600 rounds. I was well aware that it was made in Croatia prior to my purchase. The fact that it was made in Croatia didn't give me any more pause than if it had been made in Germany, Belgium, of the US .

They're not pretty and not going to make anyone's list for a BBQ gun but I'm on my 3rd XD, and never an issue with any of em so far. It's not the only poly pistol I've shot but it is the only one I've bought. The irony in this is I'm usually a USA-or-forget-you kinda guy.... well, as much as I can be anyhow....
I don't consider myself a gun snob in any way. My modest collection consists of the working class from Marlin, Ruger, Remington, Winchester, Kimber, even Wards and Sears.
Then there's this Croatian XDsc in the mix that'll chuck lead downrange over and over and over.... just like the rest of em.
