Sig P230 vs. P232 - specific differences?

Sig actually has a website with this info on it, it's pretty darn handy:

P238:

P232:

The P238 didn't really replace the P232, they are being sold alongside each other. You should be able to tell the difference just by looking at them. Click the Specifications tabs for details on differences.

Basically, the P232 is a Walther PPK clone, and the P238 is a Colt Mustang clone.

My question relates to the differences between the P230 and its replacement, the P232.

Fewer and wider slide serrations on the P232 and the rear sight on the P230 is fixed whereas the rear sight on the P232 can be drifted. Also the style of the grips are different.

Essentially they are pretty much the same gun. I prefer my P232 over the P230 but I will probably buy a P230 someday if I can get one for the right price.

Here's my P232 SL made in 1998, I love this gun! If I could only ever have one Sig handgun in my life it would be a P232.

Thanks, harqueb.us - I visited both threads you mentioned and got some good information (nothing definitive, though). I'll try bugging Sig again.

The main differences are;

* Addition of a firing pin block in the P232
* Slide serrations evolved, there are three styles, call them "Many", "Fewer" and "Perpendicular"
* Sights, go from two dot to three dot
* Standard grip panels changed but are interchangable.
* The P230 came in multiple calibers, .380, .32 and 9X18 Ultra. The P230 pictured is a .32acp.

This picture shows two of the three slide serration iterations. I don't own the newest model which has the seration at a more perpendicular angle, less slant.

Note the four types of grip that were at one time available;
New style plastic
Hogue (standard on some models)
Old style plastic
Nill (never standard to my knowedge but sold by Sig)

Here's a picture, not mine, of the newest serrations.

Thanks, usp9 (and all others) for the detailed info. I own the P230 and now am going to add the P232.

Also the P232 has an alloy frame. The P230 has a steel frame.

Both the P230 abd P232 were made in alloy or steel frames, depending on the finish. Blued frames are alloy, stainless frames are...well ...you know.

All P230s did not have steel frames, only the stainless models do.

P230 vs P232

I have the earlier model of the P232 SS NS (front sight would have to be worked on at factory). The newer model has different sights that can be changed out.
One of the differences not mentioned (so I was told) is that the ramp was changed a bit to more easily feed hollow points.

Seems like I have an early 232, that has the slanted serrations that is a lot nicer for racking. Also have some with the vertical serrations which do not offer near the grip. Once my wife is trained, if she is comfortable with the Sig 232, I would imagine she would do better with the older one, easier racking.

I've heard that said too, but I can't say for sure one way or the other. My P230 and P232 ramps and barrels all look the same, but admitedly my P230 is a very late model, a KH date, which is the last model year for the P230. A change may have been made earlier.
