I finally made my first outing to the range this year. Shot my T/C .58 caliber Hawken.

Shot a lot from 50 yards. Then fired a few shots from 100 yards (I never shot this rifle from more than 50 yards).

All in all, not a bad outing, given that I have not shot in over 6 months.

All shots were made using 62 grains of Goex FFG, followed by a wad, patched round Hornady ball. I also used a little bit of spit on the patch and did not have to clean at all between shots. No problem ramming the charge down either.

Once I placed the target out to 100 yards the wind started to whip up a bit. Any variation in grouping on either target was due more to my inadequacies than the rifle's!

Great day to be out at the range...

Here is my 50 yard target:

Thanks

Thanks -- she is a sweet rifle to shoot. If I do my part, she is usually pretty dead on.

Today was the first time I put spit on my patches. It worked wonders in terms of keeping the bore clean. I am not sure if that impacted my groups, but I haven't shot this rifle in almost a year, and this was one of the best outings I've ever had with her.

It was just great to be out at the range this morning. Great weather too here in Northern Virginia.

Looks like good shootin' to me!

Thanks for posting the report.
Actually I feel like kicking you in the shin. :D Makes me want to drag out the Hawken and get after it.
Grrrrrrr......
So many guns to shoot and not enough time!

Interesting. Thompson Center's web site doesn't list ever having made a .58 barrel for their Hawken. How is it marked?

Oh! My mistake.

I should of said,

source for "Green Mountain Thompson Center Hawken Muzzleloader Interchangeable Barrel System 58 Caliber 1" Octagon 1 in 70" Twist 32" Percussion 1137 Steel Blue", that will fit a TC.

I have the rifle in front of me -- the only engraving is this on the right side of the barrel:

THOMPSON/CENTER ARMS
ROCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE

.58 CAL. HAWKEN

On the left is a serial number and the standard warning about using pyrodex or black powder only.

You have a very unusual gun. Thompson Center's chart showing muzzleloader barrels: http://www.tcarms.com/firearms/chart_muzzleloaders.php

I have a TC renagade that is 58 cal. Also one in 54 cal.

That gun looks just like my renagade but mine has blued barrel wedges. No shinny stuff. maybe yours is a renagade or renagade barrel on the hawken stock.

Well, it says .58 CAL. HAWKEN right on the barrel.

I got this one about three years ago from Fox Ridge outfitters. I don't think they provide Hawkens anymore.

Any way, the rifle sure shoots good!!
