I am looking for new grips for my 45 blackhawk as I don't find the factory grips comfortable. Anyone have any experience with the Presentation grips? Do they help with recoil? Also, I've been told that Pachmayr grips dry out in an airid climate after time. Any truth to this?

The single action traditionalist don't like them because of the "looks" they give the gun. On go the Pachmayrs, away goes the "cowboy look." I don't have a Blackhawk now but have owned several 4 5/8" ones over the years...wish I had the last one back. I had a set of Pachmayr grips on it and they gave the gun a serious business look. Plus, the Pachs made the gun more comfortable (for me) to shoot with Ruger Only .45 Colt hand loads.

They do not dry out over time...at least here in NC. I've got some old Pachs on a few S&W's that are many years old. Now that I read your post, I'm gonna try to find some for my .45 Vaquero. :scrutiny:

Yes decellerators are wonderful, like them much better than Hogue's. i have decellerators on redhawks and super black hawks. For the black hawk only presentation are available. Either has the big advantage of covering and padding the back of gripframe. I like the looks of wood better but my hands thank Pachmayr!!!

I have a pair on my S&W 19-5 but dont really like them all that much. I also have a Decelerator and prefer them. But I also prefer the Hogue grips over both so........

I prefer the traditional shape of the Pachmeyer Presentation grips over the finger grove models and have them on several of my revolvers. The picture below on my Ruger SBH .41 mag is actually Sile grips but they're about the same as the pach presentations. The rubber grip makes it a much more controllable and less punishing gun to shoot vrs the traditional style wood grips. If you want the looks then you can always put the originals back on.

I like the Presentation and have used them on a Redhawk and a Blackhawk. Personally i like grips that dont have finger grooves and hate Hogues with a passion as the always have the gun sit way high in my hand.

The Presentations make shooting heavy loads much easier than the stock tiny Redhawk grips and the same with the Blackhawks.

On a Ruger NMBH, I can’t stand the standard factory grips. I have tried the Pachmayr and don’t really care for them on the NMBH, but like them on the Redhawk and S&Ws. I prefer Eagle Gunfighter grips for my NMBHs: checkered for light recoil guns to anchor the gun in my hand, and smooth for heavy recoiling guns where I want the gun to roll and not grind my hand with checkering.

I went from a two handed wood grip bruiser, to a one hundred round one hand shooter.
They are not much for looks, but for recoil they get the job done.
I don't mind recoil, if the grips are right for me. With the wood grips on my SBH, recoil was stout, and about a dozen rounds and I was done.
I tried shooting gloves, but they didn't help much, and were uncomfortable, and made gripping very shifty.
After I put the Pachmayr grip on I shot a hundred rounds of my stoutest 240 gr JSP and 24grs of IMR 4227 hand loads, and was able to shoot quite a few with one hand.
Usually when I shoot my SBH in a range session now, it is with a hundred rounds at least.
