Wolf small pistol primers

To expand on my previous post, of that 20K Wolf SP primers, they were shot in various S&W, Taurus and Colt revolvers (some quite old, with original springs), and various semiautos, including KelTec, XD, & Sig.
The newer nickel plated Wolf primers so far have all been loaded in 38 & 357 revolver ammo and all of it has been satisfactory.

As I said earlier, the problem in my case was limited to certain pistols. They worked in other pistols just fine. The primers were seated well, because I went through a lot of head scratching to try and diagnose the problem, with many attempted process corrections.

So it was not a total loss, but it was extremely frustrating. I am glad that many are having no problems. I will expend the rest of these, but really don't like having to load ammunition of the same caliber that is only reliable in some guns. It may be that some firing mechanisms are within factory spec, but not quite right for the extra hardness of the newer wolfs.

This is from wolf primers, s r but still wolf.

Ole farmerbuck, could you elaborate a little bit more please. What is that a picture of and what is your conclusion with wolf small pistol primers?

And the lot # I received is 30-09....they are silver cups. It will be this weekend before I have a chance to use them and then another week before I'll actually be able to drop the hammer on them.

Like i said, this was from the small rifle primers. They werent hot enough to ignite the powder, just turned it yellow.

My Glock-Wolf Primer Short Story

Deperate for primers I swallowed hard, knowing the trouble people were having and bought 5K Wolf SPP to shoot in a GLOCK:what:

Upon arrival I quickly loaded 100 and headed to the range.
3 failed to launch in the 1st 100...oh-no 4900 to go:banghead:

Shooting lead is dirty business and I rarely clean my Glock, so I removed the striker pin and removed the collection of smooge, near the front, that would limit the strike depth.

I also readjusted the priming station on the press to the crush setting and have had no additional fail to launch problems in 1000 reloads.

Sorry to say I cannot supply the lot number until I finish moving and unpack.

Just sayin'

Although this was far from a conclusive "test"...I had 100% ignition with the first 100+ that I loaded last week. Application was .38 special and fired from two different smith revolvers. I did intentionally seat the primers with a bit more force than I had been using. I'm satisfied with my experience. Lot # 30-09

I've shot about 500 rounds of .223 with the Wolf SR 223 primers, no issues, from a Mini-14, which has no problem igniting hard primers.:)

I've also got about 6K of Wolf SP primers, that I bought way back in 2006, these have worked out great, my XD shoots just fine with them.:)

NovaDAK: I'm honored someone read my post

Us Glock owners love the bashing and continuation of the kaboom internet myths.:)

I never said it was a Glock barrel or I don't clean the barrel, just the gun.

One pull on the Lewis lead remover thru the barrel every 400-500 rounds is enough.:D

I'll have my Family post here and thank you for your concern after the inevitable kaboom;)

Just sayin'

Update #2. I have now fired an additional ~250 rounds with a total of 5 failures.

One of the failures appeared to be a poorly seated primer which may have backed out or may have been poorly seated to begin with.

The other four went bang on the second strike.

These were .38 special rounds fired in revolvers. Failures occurred in Smith Mdl 19 and also in a Smith Mdl 28. I am a bit disappointed but thought I would share.

Based on prior concerns I had taken care to seat these primers with an attention to "really gettinem down in thar gud n tite."

Two friends amd I have shot around 50,000 to 60,000 wolf primers of all flavors, LP, SP and SR in many different brand guns including Glocks with no problems. All of ours are from 08.

Russian Capitalism?

Hmmmmmmm :scrutiny:

Do you suppose that when the Obamanation hit our reloading supply situation, the Russians figured out how supply and demand work, raised their prices, and started working full tilt (throwing quality control to the wind)?

Thinking back to the Cold War days, Russian ammo was pretty reliable. The Wolf primers I bought a couple years ago worked just fine - and they were CHEAP.

Now...... higher prices, lower quality....... I have to wonder if the Russians have figured out Capitalism 101. Just thinkin.'

Good to hear. I just didn't want anyone to think it was a good idea to shoot lead through a factory Glock barrel and never clean it. THAT will not end well.

I'm not a Glock basher either, one is on my hip every day, that I trust my life to.
