I have narrows my new search down to these two weapons. Just want a bigger gun for range use and to keep at the bedside and in my truck. I have heard both are very accurate and both are reliable. So which would you choose and why?? I have shot both and both shot great and felt good in my hand. The XD is $499 new for the stainless model and the SIG is $570. Thanks for your time.

Well brother, I will say you have selected 2 really good pistols.

I have owned the 220ST and have shot several xd45's. I prefer the XD for the following reasons; less weight, better capacity, I shoot it better, plenty accurate, inexpensive magazines, and popularity has grown so more holsters and what not are around.

Dont get me wrong the sig is a very nice shooting pistol. However, the problems I have with the sig are several; the grip is too long from front to back for my hand, the double action sucked, price for a CPO 220ST was around 700.00, mags were 50.00 per and the held 8 rounds, the bore axis was waaaay to high, and the sheet metal controls really did it for me. It was accurate, reliable and fun to shoot. If I were on a HRT team or needed to club a baby seal it would have been perfect because it weighed (I think) 3 pounds. It had a rail if were inclined to hang something off of it like a mall ninja. I tried to ccw it for a few weeks until my hip could no longer take the weight of the "crew served 220" so I switched to lighter pistol.

Depending on what your budget I would personally choose the XD45. By the way there is the new XDM45 coming out as well.

those are both really nice pistols. i've shot a couple of different XD45s belonging to friends and the things i really liked were the light weight, large mag and ambidextrous mag release. on the other hand i thought the XD recoiled more and the trigger was a bit mushy compared to the Sig.

my CPO 220s are ST models with the stainless steel frames so they are a bit heavy, but are great for teaching and range work...i paid $600 for each.

i like the narrower single stack magazine and when i carry them, i just carry more mags...Act-Mags are excellent at $20/each and i prefer them to factory mags. i used to carry an alloy framed non-railed 220 as a duty gun and i was always reliable

The '220 is... iconic, to me. Beautiful pistol, reliable, accurate, elegant. Unfortunately I just don't dig DA/SA pistols.

I use an XD9 and really like it. Also very reliable and accurate.

I'd just handle (and hopefully shoot) both and see what feels better in hand.

If it's going to-and-from the nightstand to the truck I'd have to say XD. Polymer guns are so forgiving of a rough lifestyle.

I just bought a P220 a few weeks ago. It is a stellar firearm and I LOVE it. it is now one of my carry guns and my P7 got demoted and sold. I only miss my P7 when I'm not shooting my P220.

Having shot both I'd say go with the XD. For some reason I just did not like the 220. I had the 220 combat.

I've owned both and the 220 is one of the few pistols I have that will never go away.

I own both. Both are great guns. If u r in a state with restricted magazine capacities I'd go w the Sig. If u r not in a state w magazine restrictions I'd go with the XD. Having said that, Springfield is about to launch the XDm in 45 ACP (check out their website). I'd wait to hear on capacity of the XDm before making a decision. The one other important thing is to try them and see how they feel in your hands.

I understand that. My first experience with the P220 was with a W.German made P220. It has the stamped steel slide and NO rail. I handled a newer one with the stainless slide and I didn't like the balance of it at all. It just didn't "feel" right. Recently I found a brand new P220 made with German parts (stamped steel slide). It is a super weapon.
Given the choice between a non-German P220 and the XD, I would take the XD too. If its the stamped steel model I pick the P220 all the way.
