What's this CZ hype all about?

After buying a CZ-452, I became much more interested in their handguns. In fact, my next one likely will be one.

I have only handled, not fired, but they fit nicely. I don't understand the issue everyone has with any grip on any handgun being bad (the only thing that matters to me are the ergonomics of the mag, safety, slide release, and trigger pull), and all the ones I handled felt 'good'.

Personally, I would own one of everything if I could.

CZ seems to make high quality firearms across the board. My only question is whether their handguns ship with the same barrel preservatives that the rifles do?

The CZ grip angle is close the .45 and target .22 pistols. -- Many prefer this feature.

Most of the CZs are steel/all metal guns. -- Many prefer this feature.

CZ chambers just meet SAAMI standards which make them fairly tight. This and the weight of a steel gun makes accuracy easier for the average shooters. -- On the other hand, CZs don't like out-of-spec reloads.

CZ offers a number of finish, sight, grip and trigger options that let shooters tailor their gun to their needs and preferences.

If you like a hammered gun, DA/SA, SA only or DA only with the above features; then you need to try out a CZ.

To the OP:
I asked the same question.
Then I held one and fired it.
The next day, I was shopping for one. My -85 is not only dead-nuts reliable but such a good shooter it makes me look great. It's so good, I don't mind that I overpaid for a used gun.
Well, I don't mind much...

Let's see. So far I have :
-75BD 9mm
-75B .40 S&W
PCR 9mm
-83 .380ACP
RAMI .40 S&W

I started buying them in the late '80s before they were "discovered" and you could still get them cheap. They all eat anything I feed them, including cheap, Commie ammo. They are accurate. All the ones I own have hammers(just a personal preference). The only mods I have done to any of them is new Wolf recoil springs and mag springs. No hype, just good guns.

Nushif,

To the best of my knowledge, the CZ design is the second most copied design in the world of semi-autos. The 1911 is first. You have to stop and contemplate this for a moment. The CZ design is a youngster compared to the 1911. I first tried a CZ in 2006, now I primarily shoot 2 platforms - CZ and 1911. I have and still have polymer pistols, but the CZ can make you look like you really know how to shoot.

Don't bother with this guy. He hates everything CZ's. He probably had one stovepipe and decided all CZ's were a POS.

I don't ;-) I have a P-01 and liking it.. just try to understand where he's coming from.

Here is my take on it.

The majority of CZ owners I know have a fanatical amount of pride for their CZs. Pistols and rifles both. I have a great love for the CZ 75 Pre B model pistol but the more recent offerings, though still plenty good and reliable dont really get me going in the same way. The poly frame models were a lame attempt at best and the rails they are putting on them now make me go temporarily blind.

The 75 PCR is my second favorite. It fits the hand good and shoots quickly and accurately.

A word of caution around CZ rimfire shooters: Never, under any circumstances, say another rifle shoots better than a CZ.

My Satin Nickel CZ75b is the best 9mm I have ever fired. CZ for me over glocks, XD's, beretta, taurus, m&p's, you name it. I've shot a long list of 9mm's.

CZ for 9mm and 1911 for .45

The title of your thread hits the nail on the head...

HYPE

I think this pic "hits the nail on the head" concerning your post! :neener:

I like my 9mm Compact very much......great little piece.

But here's my big question, what is so special about them?
I have two. First was the CZ-75 SP-01. I wanted a big, heavy steel gun for the range. I couldn't believe how beautiful the machining was.
Best slide serrations of any gun I own. Then it is as reliable as a hammer. Never a failure of any kind. So I added the Rami to my collection. Also reliable, well made. But too thick for a CC gun (for me).
Those Czech's know something about making fine guns.

Hrm. I wish my local store here had one or three in stock, because the more I see them the less they look odd.
I'll really just wait to fondle one or even better shoot one, before looking into them further.

But I can honestly say, from now on it's either DAO or SAO ... such a big step from DA/SA.

The former Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic has been known for fine machine work (and beer!;)) since before WWI. When the USSR fell and cash hungry former satellite nations began making small arms available on a larger scale in the west, Americans found great deals on reasonably good firearms (Tokarevs, Makarovs, Hungarian clones).

While the informed were probably aware before this, value seeking American shooters discovered the CZ 75 to be as good an arm as a Belgian HP at a fraction of the cost. Word of mouth spread CZ fever and the company has been able to deliver since, adapting to the vast new market with some innovation and a lot of quality.

This is hardly surprising as the industrial complex around Brno was one of the crown jewels of the former Soviet empire. Nothing magic about them, just a fine small arms producer showing up like a gem among the rubble of the hammer and sickle.

Dulvarian, I have two 452 both came with factory gunk... took me ~20+ passes before the opatches are clean. But the P-01 is very easy.. and I used brake cleaner.

Obviously handgun barrels are much shorter and much easier to clean than rifle barrels anyway...

Hah, see Redarmy67 back there.

Unless my shirt will show it, PCR in a Fist holster, every day.

Stock grips have the perfect ergonomics, perfect sight picture, great trigger pull for a carry DA/SA (may give it a trigger job), the low bore axis and high grip it allows make follow-up shots a breeze, and the most accurate gun I own. I'm working on getting more accurate, but this thing just wants to point itself at the target.

Yes, I'm a fanboy now.

My one complaint is about the chamber being slightly too tight for my tastes. But never suffered a problem with factory ammo. Not counting a few reloads I loaded too long, absolute 100% reliability from the day it came out of the box.

Threw some night sights on it, and now my only complaint is that Meprolight doesn't make a rear one to the same profile as the stock, so it has a short 'gap' in the serrated top.

I think the CZ's are great guns. They are however over hyped by many. They are not perfect and there are a lot of guys who simply refuse to believe so.

These arguments end up being just like Ford Vs. Chevy or Totota Vs. Nissan. They are all good. It comes down to personal preference.

CZ's rock. Glocks suck.

Just kidding.

Never fired a CZ. Held one and the grip feels great. I've got an EAA witness, and I know they're a "clone" of the CZ, and I really like it. I'd love to get a 97B.

Also, Zombie, that is a fine lookin' shooter ya got there!

Did somebody say hype? Even the C&R eligible CZ-82 is a marvelous pistol, with outstanding ergonomics and phenomenol reliability. It's about the best 200 or so bucks one could ever spend on a pistol.
But let's just keep this little secret amongst us CZ-hypers---we wouldn't want the "non-believers" to drive prices up with panic buying. :D

Call it what you will, I know I found a sidearm that fits me like a glove and works every time.
