I have to go to Md. and De. for my daughters wedding in Oct. My FSIL recently acquired a pistol and he has no shooting experience.
I would like to take him shooting when I get there, but the only ranges in the area are private and make it hard to patronize if you aren't known by the members.
Is there anyone in the Cecil Co., Md. - New Castle Co., De. area that can help me? Either range or private property?
While not an NRA instructor, I have lots of experience and have helped quite a few people get started in the sport and move on to ccw status.
Any help is appreciated.

Ommelanden Range in Delaware is what you are looking for:

1205 River Road
New Castle, DE 19720
(302) 323-5333

Call ahead if you go there though, I have not been there since boy scouts.

Target Masters indoor range is just over the border in PA (30 minute drive from anywhere in NCCo) may be better for a first timer. A/C and they rent MG's.

What about Elk Neck (I-95, I think Exit 100, in MD)?

Yes, Elk Neck State FOREST (NOT Park) has a range that runs $10 per person per day (last time I was there, anyway) - both rifle and pistol ranges. As you exit the town of North East on Rte 7, take the first left (Irishtown Road) and drive about 1/2 mile past the high school. The entrance to the Forest is poorly marked, but there isn't a huge amount of traffic on the road.

You must bring your own targets, and a means of attaching them to the target hangars - duct tape and a cardboard backer will suffice for pistols. They have very specific requirements for rifle targets, and you must bring your own target stand(s). You WILL be thrown off the range if a ranger comes by to check and your targets don't meet their requirements. AMHIK. Be aware that the range is normally unsupervised. If there are slob/unsafe shooters there, it's on you to resolve the situation.

Have your FSIL call to make certain that the range is open first, because the state thinks absolutely nothing of closing it without notice.

just north into PA (not that far actualy) on 202 is target masters indoor range and full auto rentals

as mentioned before there is the state range on 9

and if you dont mind traveling an hour theres also shooters choice in dover but my first stop would be target masters
