So, I'm kicking myself lately for selling my old Savage 24 in 22lr/.410 a few years back. Anyway, I was wondering if anybody still makes a cheap reliable combo gun these days. I'd like a .223/20g for poking around the woods, but it seems like combo guns fell out of favor a while back. Anyway, advice would help, but I'd really like to hear any combo gun stories or see any pics from hunts with them. Thanks

:what::what: I have the 20ga shotgun barrel from my Dad's Savage .22 Hornet/20ga. I don't remember the model number anymore than I remember who has the rest of the gun. I do remember it was his first centerfire rifle, and he ended up getting it because my Nana thought the .22 Hornet was cute compared to the .30-30 round of the gun he really wanted to get (Win. 94 naturally).

I have to find out who has that rifle and give them their shotgun barrel back, or have them give me the rest of it.:D

Ghost, one of those guns is a little out of my price range. I'll let you take a guess. I think its a shame that nobody makes a double barrel no frills combo gun anymore. It seems like you could fill a niche of any hunter who plans on encountering multiple types of game in a hunt but can only have one gun, or anybody who just goes out into the woods looking for something to get in season. personally, i doubt i'd ever really hunt with another gun if i had something with acceptable accuracy in .223/12g. I could pop in a barrel insert for .22wmr for the little critters and i'm sure a well placed .223 or a 12g slug would have no problem taking out a wild hog, which is the biggest game we get around my parts.

My truck gun is a Savage 24 in .223/20ga. Works great for poking around the woods or just taking a ride out to check feilds. CZ makes a combo gun called the BRNO a little out of my league. You can find a 24 if you do a little looking but as posted by someone above I always seems to find the .22lr/ .410 which is a little small for my wants. It is my beleif that Savage made one chambered in .30/30 / 12ga for one year. That would be a great setup.

I had a Savage 24V back in the late 80s in .223/20ga. LOVED the concept/layout/balance... everything but the ability of it to group with the .223. Try as I may... that thing wouldn't group on a 9" pie plate at 25yds. If I knew then what I know now... I'd've had the crown checked on it. I cleaned it... inspected it, oiled it... did everything I knew (at the time). It just shot like a turd... so, I traded it in on a bolt action I wanted. I still miss that gun though. A butt stock band with a mix of shot/slugs for the .20ga and a wrist band of .223 made it a very versitle and handy gun. They sure ask a LOT of money for 'em now (when you can find 'em on gun broker and such).

i really wish springfield/cz would bring back the m6, not a suitable everyday hunting gun, but a great pack/survival gun. paying 600 for a used one is nutz. .22lr/410/45 colt was the cats a##.

i don't see why the cheap combo gun isn't produced anymore. it seems like there's never not a need for a versatile, durable, simple gun to have on hand. besides, i'm sure with modern technology you can make a pretty accurate, lightweight, and durable combo gun.
